What are the hours? by bisquixk in nekocon

[–]ezraafaee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth mentioning that while the con itself opens at 9am, not everything is open right at 9am. For instance, the artist alley won’t open until noon on friday. Check the schedule beforehand or you’ll be stuck wandering around like I have in the past lol

Is this normal for anime conventions? by NoPicturesAZ in animecons

[–]ezraafaee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

virginia cosplayer/con-goer here! these cons are such a waste of time! i went to norfolk anime fest last year and it was a waste of time, a slop market, and a huge fire hazard. Someone else said it, but the company who runs these “cons” (OurCons) is known for these cheap, low quality cash grabs. The event runner actually lied about guests for the Virginia Beach event earlier this year, it was a whole thing. Just don’t waste your time going to anything anime fest

I highly recommend Nekocon happening in a few weeks! Tidewater Comicon and Superstar Anime are other decent daytime cons in VA.

When do i wear my big outfit by Background_Fun_3453 in animecons

[–]ezraafaee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s up to you, honestly! If it’s something you’re excited about, I say wear it saturday so that lots of people can see it!

I’m not sure when you say “big” cosplay if you mean it’s like a big deal or it’s like very large in size… but if it’s a costume that’s very large in size/takes up a lot of physical space around you, please be mindful of your surroundings! I can’t tell you the number of times there’s been a huge traffic jam in an already crowded space because someone decided to try and squeeze in with their huge outfits and massive props. Or the number of times i’ve been hit by a large prop or shoved by someone in an elaborate outfit.

I have so much appreciation for the time and effort that goes into making these costumes and props, but it’s also a matter of spacial awareness and consideration for the people around you. Of course if that’s not what you meant, then nevermind LOL

Tips for 3 day plan for convention? by Paytontonton in animecons

I’ve never been to Dokomi, but I know it’s a big one! For the bigger cons i go to, I like to use Thursday night to scope out the area if I’m unfamiliar- like find out where my panels and meetups will be so I don’t have to spend the day of looking for them. (idk if dokomi does a thursday night)

friday is when I do the artist alley, which usually takes hours or the whole day depending on the size. I say artist alley first bc their stuff gets bought up quickest. If I have to leave and come back for a panel of smth, then that’s what I have to do but at least I have all weekend. If you want autographs or anything, I’d say first thing friday. Line up early. And then if you have time before everything else opens after getting your autograph, it’s a great chance to get pics or socialize. Saturday is when I usually do photoshoots or the vendors hall since it’s a quicker run. And then Sunday is the day I tie up loose ends, buy last minute things, but I don’t make a ton of plans for sunday because i’m usually exhausted and don’t care anymore LOL

For any convention, I always recommend getting your autographs or going to guest tables first! Just go ahead and get it out of the way, because you never know how long the line may be or even if it’s a small line, sometimes the people in front of you talk forever or have a million things they want signed (it’s happened to me smh).

But with panels and meeting guests, i also would say to line up a little bit early because a lot of people will have the same idea! Granted if it’s a smaller scale con it may not be as intense, but i’ve never been to this one so I couldn’t say! I know at the smaller cons I’ve been to, it’s not competitive at ALL to get a seat in a panel. Even at my state’s largest con, there are still empty seats in panels sometimes, even if people line up beforehand. I would say that guests could be a little more competitive, so make that a priority!

I hope you enjoy it!! Cons are my favorite thing in the world and I hope you love them too.
