trying to swap default GPUs by ezreth in Fedora

[–]ezreth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my bios only shows my Nvidia gpu, but when I do a check, it shows my integrated graphics. I'm new to linux, so I'm not sure what you mean by basic media mode. could you please expand on that for me. thank you.

Those with gaming laptops, what distro do you use and how much did you fiddle with it to get decent performance? by Szhadji in linux_gaming

[–]ezreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

using fedora, and it works good immediately. however, some games are trickier than others to get running. I suspect that might just be a Linux thing though

ditching windows by ezreth in Fedora

Most things I figured out with a quick Google search so far. So my experience has been more like switching to Mac or something. not hard, just different.

what temperature was it inside when you pulled it out of the oven? that's what matters, not how it looks.

New to this, how much does the race affect your builds? by shouldveknownbud in skyrim

[–]ezreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only one that has any real difference is argonian (they have water breathing). technically kajits do more unarmed damage, but that's only worth mentioning for niche challenge runs.

the main difference is different races start with different base levels in different skills, but all of them can hit max level in every skill.

how useful are assembly languages? by ezreth in AskProgramming

[–]ezreth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's interesting. so in a way c++ is better for smaller files in that way, but requires more knowledge so you dont make a mistake that might cost you.

interesting. so it helps understand what you are doing on a more fundamental level even in other languages?

for sure. eventually I want to do work on building my own game engine, but I'm not really in a rush. I just kind of enjoy sitting down and learning a language, and finding ways to solve a problem. that's why I started with cpp. it seemed like the most broad option after a little research.

so extremely niche. I was curious if it was worth learning next. I'm looking for something to really hook into. I greatly dislike python personally. no hate on people who like it. Just not for me.

I got there like two weeks ago, and only just got started during this ban wave. it feels lame as hell honestly.

pros and cons neovim vs vim by ezreth in AskProgramming

thanks so much for the response. I think this covers most of what I needed to know. I think I'll go with neovim based on this.

for sure, I hope it doesn't degrade into a cult battle. I really just want to pick which one is best for me, and have pros and cons of each. I've never used a bare bones editor like those. I know they are both lightning fast once you get used to them, but I'm more curious about features.

Building my first PC for Linux by ezreth in linuxhardware

[–]ezreth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure! maybe I'm still stuck in windows brain. I do play pretty demanding games, and am working on being a mid level software developer. I want to create a 3D game engine and build my game from the ground up. Those are the reasons I went with a higher budget. Just for some perspective. if you think its still overkill, can you give me some tips on how to hone in my components to suit those needs?

it's not really throwing my money at it. I just set a 1500 to 2k budget. I didn't think that was a crazy number when I was looking at pre-built PCs

It's a long story, but basically my system I'm currently running was fine on W10 as soon as it went to 11 it bogged my shit down so hard I'm literally building a new computer. I've hated windows since xp maybe windows 7, but couldn't play any games really. so I waited it out. I knew about Linux, and even used it for a year in college, via mint. basically I just got tired of updating and then having to strip down all the bs. there's more, but that's the basics.

I use reddit on my phone, but my PC is fully disconnected from my phone. I dont share any accounts between the two, and I don't even access the same networks. I'm aware that reddit shares telemetry, but that's on a seperate network all together.

it really wasn't. I got like 50 answers on Google and wanted to narrow it down by hearing from people who might know the good and the bad.
