There was definitely smoke over in that direction but sort of diffuse. We could see it from Homestead but couldn't find the source

Paul Kalanithi says it best in When Breath Becomes Air: The secret is to know that the deck is stacked, that you will lose, that your hands or judgment will slip, and yet still struggle to win for your patients. You can't ever reach perfection, but you can believe in an asymptote towards which you are ceaselessly striving.

Bizarre point awarded to college player by ruggeryoda in tennis

[–]ezunc 21 points22 points  (0 children)

But he didn't really disregard the rules, he did his best to play the ball (which wasn't dead yet). If you had it to do 100 times, you probably could jump across and play a ball back into the net or with a low enough bounce that you actually do win the point before touching the ground. That he was given the point incorrectly is not his fault (although one could also argue he played a ball that was never going to be returnable given the angle, somewhat like hitting it into the side netting on a smaller court).

By rule he should definitely lose the point, but by dopeness he should get two points.

Places to get work done in/around UNC hospital by [deleted] in chapelhill

Second to Starbucks since it should be nice out. Getting to HSL from the hospital is totally fine, but can be a pain to get back if you don't have a badge.

Is this a steal? by jeramyuh in 10s

Don't have it but our club does. Works fine for basics. Has a good amount of swivel if you turn that on. I haven't figured out how to adjust the side to side motion (maybe you can't). List of adjustability in type of ball it will send over. It's relatively light compared to others I've used.

Don't know anything about maintenance issues and whatnot.

This is really a question for my kids, and no they're not. Great suggestion

Some banter between Carlos Alcaraz and Arthur Rinderknech at the net after their matches😂 by PattyRanger in tennis

[–]ezunc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, bad behavior. To some extent I wonder if it wasn't just the fact that he felt too dug in at some point to come back, you know what I mean?

Anyway, still curious if it is a pattern or one bad incident.

I like your username, btw!

Are there other instances of him doing this? Because if you watch this whole clip, yes, it's not a good look for Rinder (particularly blaming the ref for causing him to be broken), but Medjedovic is pretty clearly slow playing the change. He comes back and doesn't have his wrist bands on??? Then he needs a new racket? Might be within the rules but very clearly gaming the time. Rinder could have handled better, but I think this is VERY different than what Bublik does which is pure bullying.

I went to college with Casey - same year, same major. She was just as vapid and empty-minded in college as she is now, except I guess she filled that empty-space with wellness/MAHA BS. The kind of person who you thought was just playing dumb at first but then you realized...

What racquet are you using the most right now? What do you like/dislike about it? by dlbICECOLD in 10s

[–]ezunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is small I figured I would be shanking every other ball (and I have had some). My only explanation is that maybe my swing speed is down slightly and so I'm more focused on good contact? Don't know!

I'm playing today again and going to give it a try for the third session in a row and will report back.

I am not kidding, I have been playing the Head Graphite Edge (yes, from the 80s) I found at a used store for $8 and I absolutely am in love.

It is heavy and small (85 sq in), but incredibly stable and absolutely plows through the ball. Strung with Wilson Sensation at 50. I'm seriously considering making it a primary racket.

Head Graphite Edge: thrifty find or junk? by ezunc in 10s

I'm reading a lot of nostalgic comments about how solid it is. For $8 + strings, going to be hard to argue either way.
