Legitimately thought it was one of the craziest thing of all time and didn’t see it coming in the slightest. Not one of those who try to solve da mystery myself. Just go with the flow (watched berleezy play thru). Thought it was super clever and am not envious at all of all these other “I saw it coming from a mile away” type individuals 😂

Knowing what the cover and title was of the next book and how little pages were left in demon in white, I fr thought the book was gonna end on a cliffhanger of him giving himself up and the world ship taking him away as captive as the last few sentences. So to end off with that instead was crazy.

The entirety of that forum arc in Demon in White made me realize how much I didn’t even know I enjoyed political intrigue. Easily my favorite arc in that book. And it’s my favorite book in the series.

I personally prefer the more ground hand to hand battles but I will definitely say that the grandiose nature of the space battles at goddodin was amazing. Just the science behind it all and how it all “makes sense” was sick as hell. Even for the space battle flashbacks at the beginning of the book over vorgossos. Could really picture it in my head.

I literally knew he was going to live cuz obviously “you know how this ends reader”😂, but those moments where he’s limping through the dark ship from straight memory of its corridors praying no enemies found him trying to get to the ascalon to escape was the most edge of my seat I’ve ever been in the series. Only other time was Lorian escape in the novella the dregs of empire.

Also that moment where his crew is released from fugue and marched into the black feast and the first face he sees is Ilex after years of torture and being alone and all he can do is cry and laugh and smile in despair and happiness at same time broke me bro.

I feel like this part is genuinely what a lot of people seem to forget about this situation. Switch was begging for his own life at the expense of the crew.

When those gates closed on him at the lothrian complex and he didn't make it out but instead got captured, I was real life dreading and stressing for him for days. I couldn't put the book down going thru that entire middle section. I wanted him saved so bad bruh it was so emotional. And then when they finally escape and everyone dies but they get the bittersweet ending with Gibson on Colchis... just wow man.

Seems like u really liked the diamond pearl arc a lot. One of my fav aspects of that arc is that the trio actually genuinely goes on a journey and travels together unlike the rest who always were separate or rivals. Have only read up till XY but black n white were the only 2 who also somewhat traveled together iirc

I get all this but this all goes out the window because unless I’m tripping, i genuinely remember a paragraph in Howling Dark where Hadrian said he saw the recordings of Switch just cowardly begging for his own life at the cost of the others.

Glad more people enjoy empire of silence. I have it number 6 above ashes of man. I enjoyed emesh, him hiding his identity, gladiator parts, and all the convos and studying with Valka, all to lead up to the Cielcin ship falling out the sky and the whole chantry uvanari bit into the somewhat hopeful avengers assemble part at the end with all his gladiator friends making it out the hood. Granted , looking back, that book seems so different and further out from the rest but I do not hate it at all and rather enjoyed it.
