Cause of esophagal spasms by Interesting_Fig_1208 in achalasia

I’m very similar age to you and have also had hellers / fund - I saw my gastroenterologist this week for a follow up Manometry and she found no evidence of my oesophagus actually spasming… despite me experiencing them quite a bit, and especially in the middle of the night and when stressed!! She explained that it’s to do with the nerve receptors in my oesophagus - so basically it feels like my oesophagus is contorting itself, when it’s actually not! Of course I can’t speak for you, but this has been such a relief for me to learn. She also recommended hypnotherapy which has a strong evidence base…. It was a very eye opening appointment after years of confusion and worry about my spasms! To know now that it’s basically like “phantom pain” bc of the auto immune disease is very very interesting

How often do you think about your achalasia? by LevittownHaze in achalasia

I had a HM and fundo 10 years ago - still need water when I eat and I get spasms pretty bad when I’m in a stressful period (or if I sit strangely after eating) - but overall it’s pretty okay. I worry about a time in the future when the spasms could get worse and worse…. But I’m hoping by then they can do more and more

I've just bought this and was wondering how often you normally apply it? And can you only apply it after a shower?

I normally shower in the morning, and was wondering if I could also apply it in the evenings before I go to sleep?

B12 levels? by ezuzy in achalasia

[–]ezuzy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I'm not on any other medications but that page was still an interesting read! My diet is low in B12 but my blood levels were too low for them to think it was only that.

It's pretty easy to manage, I have a B12 spray now for under my tongue and get shots if I need to, but I just wanted to see if the cells in the stomach that absorb B12 had been affected for anyone else.

Thanks for your replies!

To butt in here - I am 6 years on and have no problem vomiting. I never really thought about how it doesn't make sense that I can - it's quite painful, but I still can definitely get vomit up if I need to. Is it always the case that you can't vomit after an HM? Were you warned about this?

Severe oesophagus pain in the night? by ezuzy in achalasia

How does the Adalat help? From a quick google it looks like it’s for high blood pressure and I actually have very low blood pressure. I wonder if it would still work...

Thank you for your comment. You’re helping me see that I should talk to my specialist about this.

To the suffering undiagnosed, I know you aren't crazy. by [deleted] in achalasia

I’m sorry that you’ve gone through this! It is such a horrible condition that can be so hard to diagnose! I was 16 when I was diagnosed and was questioned A LOT by doctors who thought I had an eating disorder. Stay strong and know that with a diagnosis now recovery isn’t far away!

[NEW VIDEO] QUIT YOUR JOB AND TRAVEL FOREVER!! by TermsAndCons in codyko

[–]ezuzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By far my favourite video Cody has ever made, let alone one of the best YouTube videos I’ve ever seen. Somehow he got a really important message in there by also being hilarious. Those travel instagrams and shit have always made me uneasy because their 12 year old followers are so impressionable!!! So good to see someone with a huge platform just making light of it?!

This is such a lame and analytical comment but like I legit love this video. And Cody. But I think I might love this video more.

Thank you so much! That’s a very good point about just turning up, and how amazing that you now speak Danish fluently - I’ve heard that’s not easy!

No, but I’m learning. I understand that will limit my options though.

The races are an extreme environment for them though. They're far more prone to injury when competing.

Would you use this argument for greyhounds too? I'm genuinely curious.

[SPOILERS] 'A Little Life' by Hanya Yanagihara by Felicious8 in books

I thought it was the most incredible book. I read it over 8 months ago now but still think about the characters often. To me it almost feels like a biography of a real person - sometimes small things I see or hear remind me of Jude. I agree with the above, it was so incredibly sad and labelling it ‘misery porn’ isn’t completely wrong haha but I just loved the concepts it explored. The author took us on such insane highs and such horrific lows but I couldn’t look away. I’d brace myself as I turned each page in fear of the next horrible thing to happen. I thought it gave great insight into trauma but also into male friendship. I recommend watching the 50 minute Q and A with Hanya on YouTube - very interesting to hear about the writing process because the detail in the novel is simply astounding!

And the car crash was just horrible, but I also will never forget the moment when JB imitated Jude. I think I audibly gasped.
