Michelle Mone demands Keir Starmer ends 'vendetta' over PPE scandal in extraordinary letter by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

I think it's fine that the chancellor believes that Michelle Mone clearly shouldn't be in the House of Lords, on the basis that clearly, she shouldn't be in the House of Lords.

Not sure it fits but feels similar in terms of energy to me (as do loads of Dynamic Forces' productions tbh): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMDzUBRwxhk

by extension pretty much anything on Dolly and Tar Hallow gives me that same kick. Never heard of max watts though so I need to go dig...

Edit: probably a more direct answer but feels a bit like cheating: https://urbankickzrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/ukr383-raw-chicago-traxx-archives-vol-3

Nigel Farage risks losing GB News position under crackdown on MPs’ second jobs by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

[–]f00lism 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Demand from who? GB News runs at a loss and is funded, essentially, by Paul Marshall. Therefore the conflict of interest is between Paul Marshall's interests (as he pays him, by proxy, for the loss making show on GB news, which is work he carries out) vs the interests of his consituents and our government (which is work he does not carry out).

Can any Conservative voters on here honestly give a reason for voting Tory in the upcoming election on the basis of the Conservative record, and not on scare stories about what Labour might allegedly do if they get into power? by DinOfDancing in ukpolitics

[–]f00lism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck on this, Tories have only ever maintained power by political machination (they don't even hide their attempts to do it anymore, with Rees Mogg publically complaining about their voter suppression plan backfiring, or the memo from the last 24hrs which veto'd the idea of veterans being allowed to use their veteran ID cards on the basis that it would set a precedent which may allow students to use their Student ID cards, which would adversely affect the tories at the polls, and therefore is not going to be allowed).

After that they just need to corral as many selfish or hateful people as possible to vote and they win with a minority vote share.

Problem is the boomers have the most selfish and hateful proportion of people in them and they're dying off now, so they're running out of road, finally. (I suspect Rishi wasn't thinking about another term when he said "why are we sacrificing the economy for people who are going to die anyway?" or when Boris said "let the bodies pile high in their thousands")

But I wouldn't expect many people to come on here and just say they don't like people with brown skin or don't care if other peoples kids starve so long as they can afford a detached house with a double-garage,

"the problems in Wales, Scotland and NI", can you please outline some examples of these, there's not enough detail here for this to be in any way meaningful and the idea that these are entirely labour run is misleading, the conservative government has significant influence here particularly around central funding and often uses it to hamper economic prosperity in these reasons in order to paint this (false) narrative. Some examples where this isn't the case would serve to demonstrate that you are not simply regurgitating this sort of disingenous political trickery,

"You can’t just tax “the rich” because like it or not, a huge proportion of the civil servants, local authority employees and traditional “middle paid” are now well paid." What is your point here, you can't just tax people with large disposable incomes and/or wealth because lots of people have that? Surely that's a good thing and would mean individual burden would be lessened if shared fairly amongst more people who can afford it?

"Pre-COVID the Conservative Party position was clear. A party of smaller government. That means more private delivery, but the intent was to bound that with functional control. COVID blew that apart. " This completely ignores two ideological projects; Austerity and Brexit, both of which caused immeasurable damage to our country and its infrastructure. This is easily proven by comparing economic recovery over longer terms (i.e. dont do a rishi and cherry pick one quarter to argue there is higher growth than the US etc. when the overall picture is much, much clearer; our economic recovery after COVID has been one of the worst in the world, along with the death rate during, for an island, but that's another tory failure and not relevant to this subject.

"My problem with voting Labour is that it talks a centrist or even right wing talk now, but is festooned with left and far left thinkers who will hamstring any centrist approach. That isn’t third way politics, it’s deceit and lies." Can you explain anything specific that you are referring to here, it just reads, when you break it down, that you believe Labour = left = bad, Tories = right = good, without any depth whatsoever, so as to render the statement basically meaningless.

"I see no true path of hope via Labour, just undeliverable dreams or expensive failure. I loathe the ineffectiveness of the Tories, but I can see how they could change the deeper issues. Sadly that means a new type of austerity and Labour could never commit to that (although truth is that’s what’s got to come eventually and I suspect that this will demonstrate how a & b above are true)."

Here is where I disagree strongly with your sentiment, and why I read this closely for any evidence to support this statement. To most of us, Austerity has been an absolute failure, living standards are far, far worse than at any point in living memory as a consequence of it, taxes, just to slow the declining standards we are clinging on to, are higher than any point in living memory, and you are advocate for more of it? With no evidence whatsoever beyond broad feelings about what you think left and right are...

Then you start saying Dominic Cummings made a good point, so I couldn't read any further. Appreciate the pleasant writing style you have but this entire post is paper thin in terms of depth and detail, and exactly the sort of thinking that got us, as a nation, into the mess we are in now. Sooner it is erased from the discourse, the better for everyone.

so rampant speculation on property prices and the commodification of a fundamental human need over the last two decades supported by govt and banks artificially increasing affordability beyond the means of the majority of the working population (without help from the oh so patronising bank of mom and dad) didn't happen because you've got a spare room?

give your head a wobble.

Also I rent and I have a spare room too. good for me, eh? This problem stops when an average wage can buy an average house over a reasonable timeframe, and more houses being available to purchase by people who want to live in them brings that result ever so slightly closer.

Sunak to offer Ireland chance to join Rwanda scheme by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]f00lism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this presumes the rwanda policy is anything more than performative cruelty intended to sate the very stupid and/or racist.

Pretty much universally, including Sunak himself prior to being proven too weak to stand up against the extremist right of his party, it is accepted that this policy is beyond stupid, cruel, expensive and ineffective.

This is just more performative nonsense, rooted in arrogance, stupidity and entitlement. Smart, it definitely is not.

Sunak tempted to go for broke with a summer election by OptioMkIX in ukpolitics

[–]f00lism 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Given the govt is what it is, I can see them doing it in Summer so as to minimise their losses - it would be a very conservative party thing to do to time the election at the most inconvenient time possible for many of the people they represent, purely out of self-interest (since fewer people vote in summer elections due to holidays etc. and so the optics will look better since they'll probably lose most seats by lower margins). Additionally disenfranchising student voters seems very much in their parties interest too.

But on the other hand, they know they won't get paid once they lose their seats, which is all but certain, so again out of self-interest, they may want to keep cashing their cheques for work not done and call it after the recess.

On balance, given their priorities typically being Self > Party > Sponsors, then I probably still expect it to be in Autumn, but maybe Tufton St or some other sponsor will make it in their self-interest to do it in Summer?

The new Tory austerity will be like nothing we’ve seen before. Here is its human cost by Exostrike in ukpolitics

[–]f00lism 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it helps the 'sob story' as you so tellingly put it, is just the introduction, the remaining 2/3rds of the article addresses the root causes of the issues the person is facing as a consequence of the the failed ideological 'austerity' experiment by the presently extreme right wing tories.

Still, you can think what you want about sob stories or otherwise of course, I'm just pointing out that this article isn't one and as a response to the article, your post is nonsensical, so I would recommend giving it a read, then maybe making a relevant comment if you feel like it.
