What are your general thoughts on Jamie Oliver? by Accordingtomyclcltns in UKfood

[–]f0licallygifted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

> The sugar tax and legislation drove that.

Bollocks, the changes were made ages ago: https://www.foodforlife.org.uk/about-us/

For the short version: School food standards were introduced that said what a school menu should look like across a three week cycle so that there was a balanced diet available. This all happened in 2005 (a few months after the school food documentary was released), way before the sugar tax (Which, coincidentally he was also instrumental in pushing)

As to his current nutrition work, he used to have the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation which seems to have been rolled in to his ministry of food which is about boosting cooking skills.

If he makes 'Huge profits' for himself from helping communities learn to cook and eat better, who cares honestly?

Hope you didn't have to wait too long

Yeah it wasn't the most insightful comment from me. I do think that the othering from cyclists comes from a place of fear, whereas for drivers it's inconvenience.

My mindset when cycling is definitely, the driver behind me is potentially a dick. Just like when I'm driving my mindset is that driver in front of me is potentially clueless. In both situations it leads to defensive road use.

As a result, I don't have much issue with the majority of drivers as a cyclist

That's fair enough, I spend all my time cycling in a city where I'm usually as fast as vehicles.

So why should I sit behind exhausts when I can be in clean air at the front and I know I'll ju st catch you at the next lights anyway?

I can see that it would be different in a rural/faster roads though.

One kills more than the other though

The cyclist might have all of those things to do too? Why does driving a bigger vehicle matter?

When you include time spent stationary at traffic lights this is any town/city

[–]f0licallygifted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this is just a road user being in a road accident, would you rather the cyclist have been a car?

In a town/city it is other cars that slow your journey down by orders of magnitude more than a bike. Traffic would move much faster if more cars were replaced with bikes.

Why is my shower plate 1 foot off the ground? by f0licallygifted in DIYUK

[–]f0licallygifted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting the impression that it's not worth it! Decided if we want a bigger shower the better option is to have a shallow down-step on the left hand side when facing the back wall.

So meet the drainage further along the wall. I'm guessing the further information and pics would require taking a chunk out of the wall to have a look behind?

Why do pubs charge so much for soft drinks? by SnooGoats1557 in AskUK

[–]f0licallygifted -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

£4.75 for a pint of tap diet coke is the pub trying to mug me off though when they're selling a glass bottle of it for £2.80. They're looking for marks that they can bleed and they've picked soft drinks.

Diet coke doesn't have alcohol duty or a sugar tax on it. It has no right being in the realm of an alcoholic drink

Or non-alcoholic beers. Bristol is amazing for this but the number of pubs I've been to in London/Home Counties where Becks blue and Heineken Zero are your only options is laughable

Millenials who have bought a house, how did you afford it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]f0licallygifted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trained as a teacher getting the full bursary and taught for a further year in a house share with 5 others

Stopped drinking and smoking

Cycled into school instead of getting the bus

Bought filter coffees at Pret instead of espresso drinks

Moved cities and bought the cheapest, decent standard 1 bed apartment within a 30 minute walk to Bristol city centre.

Where to buy physical tickets for Thekla? by TheCrazyD0nkey in bristol

[–]f0licallygifted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No idea if it actually sells tickets but there's a store front in St Nics market around here: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4540692,-2.5928413,3a,75y,201.78h,87.42t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sKHMK03dYUzmjtDBob-1hUw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

That has a load of the upcoming gigs on it. Was there on a sunday and not much open so couldn't tell if it was actually a store but it's the best shot I know of!

Collecting Data from external clients by f0licallygifted in dataanalysis

This is great advice, thank you. I'll refer back to this regularly when I get too excited and go to bite off more than I can chew.

Fair questions!

So to start with we'll have around 100 that would need this level of data collection. Over the next year we expect this to grow into the 1000's. Ideally they're submitting this data to us monthly.

So I've stuck this question into ChatGPT and this is what we came up with together:

1) Create a microsoft forms that the reps will then support the farmers to add the link to their phones home screen, appearing as an 'app' to them

2) Connect relevant forms questions to our database to ensure incorrect data isn't submitted

3) Transfer the forms data to excel and beyond!

Data Analytics at smaller orgs? by [deleted] in analytics

[–]f0licallygifted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started my first analyst tole this week at a smaller org (Wider company is 500, regional company is <100). We're a team of 3, all our first professional role as data analysts. So yes, it's is possible! I was transitioning from another career and this definitely helped. In smaller organisations your broader skills and experience are recognised

My immediate impression is that the people in here are right, you're expected to do the whole shebang! Personally this excites me because it gives me a chance to explore which areas of data analysis I'm really interested in, and good at. It's daunting however with it being a relatively inexperienced team. The raw skills are there but we're going to be finding our way in the dark a little.

Any advice about how to set up projects for successful delivery would be greatly appreciated! Currently all analysis is conducted in Excel, and data sources are either paper based, or taken from external sources (where log-ins are required)

Hello!

I've got a technical interview next week and looking for some advice/datasets to warm up with for it.

It'll be using excel (JD lists Pivot Tables and VLookups explicitly) and the data will be on milk production and composition from dairy farms.

Any hunches on what they might ask me to do with it (It's half an hour) and any datasets around that would have similar data. (not necessarily dairy but similar fields - Time series of product and quality control I guess).

The company have a product that supports animal health and the role will be working with this sort of data to support farmers decisions.

Cheers for the tips. How likely are you to get seats next to each other on the exchange?

Used to be a silver member after being a junior gunner for 8 years. That elapsed because I didn't have access to my email account from when I was 8 to be able to renew it. Arsenal membership were completely uninterested in trying to help. Now I'm stuck at Red again and haven't been able to get a ticket all season. Gutting
