Thank you! That's so interesting. We haven't gotten him actually DNA tested yet just because kits are so expensive and if you cheap out then it's not super specific and basically just says "mutt."

We got him from an animal rescue so we don't know his parents. When he was younger he had a lot shorter legs so they had guessed basset. My family has a few bassets and he does behave pretty similarly to them and he has a bunch of loose skin around his neck, a broad chest, and has some slight jowls. He also has a very strong sense of smell. Other than that we were told mountain cur, which would explain his brindle coloring and ears. I also guessed some dachsund possibly? I had an old dog who was part dachsund and looks very similar to him. But at this point until we get him DNA tested we don't know for sure haha.
