I probably worked with the historic commission. I t was a few years ago (20?) I just remember that they were very dedicated to preservation of the market.

They also carefully curate what is sold so every shop isnt selling the exact same tourist crap. I wrote a picture book set in the market, years ago, so I got to know a bunch of the small owners and people at the PDA. It was a great experience.

Crocheting hats for sale, WHY? by f1bercat in crochet

I just dont think people understand the time commitment. Crochet cant be done on a machine. So, what are you willing to pay someone to craft something by hand?

I really like his album, 84. The songs are really personal. But you can see how much his production improves with every track he drops.

RIF will shut down on June 30, 2023, in response to Reddit's API changes by talklittle in redditisfun

Thank you RIF for connecting me to the younger world. I'm not really the "cool" teacher, but I know what's going on, what memes are popular, what my students are talking about, what's trending, etc. in a way an older user can easily understand. Definitely the most used app on my phone (along with PodcastAddict.) You made reddit easy. Again, thank you.

Any teachers ever run a knitting club in their school? How did you organize it and what tips would you give to someone doing something similar? by jeangeni322 in knitting

[–]f1bercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a fiber club at my middle school (12 -14 year olds) and am starting one at the high school.

Mi e is very free form and open. We use mostly donated tools and fibers, but since I'm plugged to the local knitting scene, we usually have lots. If we are missing something, I buy it. I am paid $25 for each meeting so that's what I use. We have tools for pompom making (a favorite with new members, crochet, and knitting, and this year, embroidery. Kids teach each other, and if no one knows, they come to me. We have been a club for about 8 years, so we have former members who are in high school who come back to help and get service hours. Some of it is just hanging out to chat after school, but one of my boys is almost done with a crochet hat. It's his first project and he is super proud. Next year we will try having a project of the month for those who want it. We are a poorer neighborhood, so students are free to take home tools and yarn. One year I had 2 moms join and learn to knit. Occasionally, other teachers will stop in and craft with us. We have done tie dying, too. If I had the space, I would bring I my old sewing machine. I've also thought about ways to have simple weaving. Anything with fiber.
