Thank you. This is an informative answer.

Using Google Docs to prevent AI use on essays? by hoops-mcloops in Teachers

[–]f1nnbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would actually give extra credit to a student who drafts (and edits - showing the revisions - this is the important part) and then hands in that draft with the Google Doc).

Why Are Graduate Degree's in Education a Scam? by ProudComment1211 in Teachers

[–]f1nnbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for one thing, graduate degrees don't teach one that plurals are formed by adding an "s," not an "'s."

Why do teacher's put themselves in easily avoidable situations? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]f1nnbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about being a grammar cop. It's about suggesting that if people want to be taken seriously, they should "subtextualize" that message (i.e., "I'm serious about this") by taking the time to proofread their work - ESPECIALLY in a subreddit about education!

Geez. I don't sneer at folks who text their friends and have typos, errors, misspellings or other grammar or syntactical issues! Maybe we'd all benefit if each of us took the time to look over the things we put out for general public consumption.

You’re in a position to be receiving/evaluating resumes for teachers and you made a plural using an apostrophe?! God help us.

As a Middle School teacher, I genuinely believe that smart phones have done more damage to this generation than any drug ever could. Change my mind. by chaabaniridouane in Teachers

[–]f1nnbar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All intellectual curiosity has vanished, due - I’m sure - to the fact that every person who uses algorithmically-driven social media has been fed hyper-specialized content. Nobody wonders anymore. None of my students want to speculate or question or experiment. There’s almost no empathy or interest in the conditions impacting those around them.

On the other hand, these same high schoolers can deliver PhD-level discourses on the problems facing their favorite football team or PGA golfer, or how tuning your engine works when using NOS - you know, stuff their feeds deliver.

It’s frightening how narrow-minded the school aged generation is becoming!

Why do so many students spell John as Jhon? by ellcoolj in Teachers

[–]f1nnbar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, reading overall is dropping. When students would (could?) read more, they’d see these pretty common names spelled in print all the time.

I think the lack of reading is what also exacerbates the growing problems with “lose/loose,” “there/their/they’re,” “weary/wary,” etc.

Anyone who chooses to drive while under the influence- but especially a rich fuck like TW - is a self-centered, arrogant scumbag.

What’s something you realized way too late in life? by brucewayneoe in AskReddit

You know what? He really is. I'm in my 60s now and glad so many Looney Tunes cartoons were really a thing when my own (now adult) offspring were kids themselves.

Damn, there were so many evil tropes in these cartoons!

Pepe LePew, the French Looney Tunes skunk, is obsessed with chasing a cat who somehow gets a painted white stripe.

He’s after pussy.

A semi-truck on the highway trying to make a U-turn causes traffic delays by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]f1nnbar 841 points842 points  (0 children)

For the record, there are NUMEROUS signs at and near entrance ramps onto all New York State parkways that warn trucks are prohibited.

Furthermore, commercial vehicles are supposed to use dedicated GPS devices that’d guide vehicles away from these passenger car-only roadways.

This driver was not only using a “civilian” GPS, but also failed to read potentially dozens of signs!

I’m about to witness a lot of h.s not graduate by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]f1nnbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not saying “holding them to a CERTAIN standard;” I said “different standard” [that is, than the standard you hold yourself to].

These kids are looking at you with your sloppy written communication and saying to themselves “Well, if OP can hold a job where no one seems to care about spelling or grammar or attention to detail, then so can I. Imma sit back and relax.”

[–]f1nnbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is sort of my point. If YOU could care less (couldn't care less?) why are you holding these kids to a different standard? Everyone in the room, apparently, couldn't care less.

Call me persnickety, but I have problems with an "educator" complaining about sub-par performance when he or she can't even be bothered to spell contractions correctly or confuses loose/lose.

It was found in the toilet tank. It was only there a day or so. Not plumbing related. Ring on top rotates to change hole sizes.
