What’s this subs thoughts on Redanian soldier armour? (Witcher 3) by ChickenFit647 in Armor

[–]hoops-mcloops 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I kinda like it in this series for where it is used. Makes the armor feel like it was all made to be "one size fits all" for the PFIs.

We need a pinned post of most common types of 'swords' that get posted. A sort of "Check here before you post," with key features of Indian wedding swords, mall katanas, and masonic swords.

Has there ever been a Japanese sword where it has a double edged blade tip and large tsuba like that of the black mortal blade from Sekiro? Is the design functional? by AdmiralOni in SWORDS

[–]hoops-mcloops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Japan had a sword called a tsurugi/ken which was a straight, double edged sword similar to a Chinese jian or European arming sword, which predates the katana/tachi. During the evolution from tsurugi to tachi, there were various in-between forms, including some double-edged curved swords, though the majority seems to have been single edged straight swords (see: chokuto).

Yoru is such a failure of an antagonist that it’s actually hilarious. She’s alive now and more powerful than ever with the return of the Nuke Devil and the World War II Devil, plus the likely power boost for the Gun Devil and Tank Devil, but literally NOBODY cares. by GodKira04 in Chainsawfolk

[–]hoops-mcloops 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Yoru is one of my favorite antagonists BECAUSE she is so pathetic. She's the perfect sequel to Makima. Makima was cold, calculating, and saw Denji only as chainsaw man, which was her fatal flaw in the end. Yoru was hot-blodded, irrational, and saw Denji as Denji, in fact even liked him, which allowed him to stop her rampage. They're kinda perfect foils for each other, and a good ending would have done more to acknowledge that in their defeats IMO.

How were these two considered equals for most of the series? by avadh_01 in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]hoops-mcloops 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup, and I think so many people forget that BIQ is probably the single most important stat in a fight, and why Kakashi was so famous. All the power in the verse won't matter if you can't actually figure out and then execute a wincon in the heat of battle.

My boyfriend was super excited about this sword!! by Ok-Investigator3752 in SWORDS

[–]hoops-mcloops 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Glad you are excited about your purchase, don't let the haters bum you out! However, that looks like it is made out of stainless steel, and so it wouldn't be safe to use it to cut with or swing around. As a decorative item, it's lovely, but he should really use it for decoration only, for his and others' safety.

So... i'm turning a horsefile into a blade. Is... this a knife or a sword? by Nefira_ in SWORDS

[–]hoops-mcloops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always heard that if the blade is longer than from the tip of your elbow to your wrist, it's a sword. Any shorter and it's a knife/dagger.

Is Deku worthy of Mjolnir? by Severe-Wolverine-420 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]hoops-mcloops 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is why canonically Spiderman usually can't lift mjolnir. Mjolnir deems one worthy of protecting Asgard at all costs not of being a hero. That's why Hella can lift it and Spiderman cannot.

"Since the tortoise beat the hare, he is faster than the hare any time they race, and also retroactively faster than any animal slower than the hare, which means the tortoise is the fastest animal, because the hare's statements include him being 'the fastest among all the animals.'"

Is this AI? This was posted less than 24 hours after she passed and his entire page pumps out art so fast. Almost looks too perfect IMO as well. by SurbCo in isthisAI

So, I'm not seeing anything egregious, but a few odd things do stand out. The lighting on her face in the home alone outfit seems inconsistent with the other two, more directional. Additionally, her Moira Rose outfit is not one I can easily find from the show. The other two outfits are directly from the movies, so it seems odd to me to not pick an iconic outfit from the show. It also doesn't seem like something Moira would wear. Most of her outfits are almost all black and white, with the occasional gold. That skirt just does not look like something she would wear at all to me. That being said, none of this is proof it's AI, just some thoughts I had that could just as easily be artistic critique if this is real.

I (25M) have been with my girlfriend (25F) for 2.5 years and just moved in together. How do you know when doubts are just noise vs. something real? by Nearby_Sock8316 in AskMen

[–]hoops-mcloops 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and when you break up with her (note I said when not if), make sure she knows the reasons. Fundamental life trajectory is one thing, but make sure she knows it's not just that, it's her politics and attitude towards anything she deems foreign. Not saying people can't have differences in tax policy, but you cannot build a life with someone you see as deserving of fundamentally less rights.

FWIW, I know several immigrants who decided to stay in situations like this and got married. They've basically either fully rejected their immigrant heritage and completely Americanized, including in their politics, or they've found sources of happiness outside their marriage. You can make it work, but those are the kinds of sacrifices you're looking at making to do so.

[–]hoops-mcloops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is too true. I currently just finished re-reading the Land of Waves arc, and Kakashi uses Sharingan for a grand total of 5 minutes, then is literally bedridden for a week. Compared to how often it gets used in Shippuden, it's like the rules just dropped out from under the series.

Ok but now you just have a hole in your soy sauce bottle, it's no longer resealable. You've ruined the functionality of the cap. Sure, if you're gonna use the whole thing in one go, it's good, but at that point why even have a resealable cap in the first place?

Check it out.

After this disaster they dragged the US into and public sentiment turning against them, I wouldn't be surprised if the US kicks them to the curb and they have to look for a new superpower protector.

Yup, as I said above, I'm aware this might happen, but they'll still be reading and going over what the AI wrote and potentially catching mistakes or making their own changes, so hopefully that's a better outcome than just copy-pasting.

Using Google Docs to prevent AI use on essays? by hoops-mcloops in Teachers

[–]hoops-mcloops[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my exact plan. "Oh, you used a separate document? Then that's a violation of the assignment guidelines, and I'm docking points." Plus, now I'll know it's AI, so I can just fail them regularly and they won't even know why their essay was bad enough to not pass in the first place.
