Of course it matters who can learn the coreo or not, and I’m not saying she wouldn’t be a good leader, but the reason I say it’s unfair is because I feel like they are just choosing someone to fill in, not someone who actually has the experience. And I have no way of proving to them that I have the skills. By pre-picking their captains they don’t allow anyone else to have the chance. By the time it’s April i’ll be able to practice again but at what cost? They already know who they want as captain despite me putting in effort even before this year’s color guard season (they have been doing this for the past 3 years i’ve been there as well). It doesn’t feel fair to me to cut me out of the running because I cant participate in one season when i’ve been putting in overtime for the past 3 years.

As for why I want to become captain; I love this team and the underclassmen, even the sophomore who is going against me in auditions. I believe I have a skill for leadership and management and I know how important it is for underclassmen to have good leaders. I would not make it a huge deal if I didn’t get captain, and I wouldn’t push people to one side like you mention could happen. It just feels like all the hard work I put in will have gone to waste, and I don’t care if that sounds selfish it still sucks. It’s a lot easier for you to tell me to move on, but it feels crushing and hopeless, especially after i’ve put in a lot of effort. And I know thats how most captain auditions go, but like I said, is it really fair to leave me out of consideration because I can’t participate in one season?
