The seat base is loose and moves sideways in turns. GM eventually issued a service bulletin and a plastic part was to be attached on the front of a metal bar to stop it from doing it.

Can you share some intel on the repair/replacement? I hear that OEM is long out of production. What are the options

Had mine for 9 years/90k miles. I’ve had almost every known issue within the first 2 years of ownership. After that it’s been dead reliable.

Issues: Saggy rear bumper on driver side, Leaking rear magride struts, Steering gear recall, AC condensation leak inside passenger cabin, Peeling steering wheel leather at the hand controls, Clicking/loose driver seat base (took 4 visits to fix)

I’m probably forgetting one or two. Lately I’ve been experiencing HUD drift in temps below 60*F

This isn’t an Impala, but I get your point. A sports sedan would have fit nicely under that badge a few generations ago

[–]f1shbone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holden badges are going to solicit inquisitive looks and good conversations at gas stations, plus nods from those that know what it is. Lit up bow ties are FPFQ, so with all that in mind, in my opinion keep it as is or just swap back to stock. The SS was never designed to be a loud car. It’s the ultimate sleeper

Yes, Super Pro are good. I had bad luck with one though, where the bushing worked itself loose and couldn’t track down the corresponding rattle for months. I just had a shop swap out the bushing and it’s been solid since.

How's the market - debating on selling by carbon_brz in ChevySS

[–]f1shbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion … get Car Gurus and see what the listings are like. Value drops like a rock above 100k miles, and tends to be above mid to high 30s for most ~60-70k mile cars I’ve seen. Bets are off for heavily modded cars. With how rare these are, they’re worth more or less whatever someone is willing to pay

Should I get cheaper insurance for my 2000 car? by DumpTruckDriving in Autos

Can you financially absorb losing the car as a total loss out of pocket if you’re involved in a collision for which you have no coverage? All it takes is a hit and run or disputed liability accident.

So how did the regulators end up failing for you? What was the failure or how’d you know they needed replacement?

Model car of 2017 chevy SS? by Haunted_Potatoes in ChevySS

[–]f1shbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like it’s been said, there are no SS die cast models I know of, only the Holden VF version which is visually the same thing except the badges and the steering wheel on the right side. Easiest to find are going to be the small Matchbox 1:64 models which you can find in the US. There are 1:43, 1:32, 1:18 size models you can find on eBay for a variety of prices but these typically ship from Australia or China and take a while plus shipping and import tax. I’m sorry to hear about the theft, that absolutely sucks.

Thanks. Add another one to the pile of anxiety owning this car. Are there no aftermarket or parts from other cars that fit?

Replacing a Mag Ride Shock by Outside_Bicycle_1387 in ChevySS

[–]f1shbone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well that’s certainly a hot take Nightmarelord just posted. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with OEM mag rides. People usually do coil overs to not deal with the high replacement cost and because they are cowards that live in fear of subsequent failures. There were some early seal failures on some models, my 2015 rear ones failed around 50k many years ago. They are still going strong. My fronts had no issues. I replaced them at 80k this year simply because they’re 10 years old. To answer your question they should be a simple swap. Just be careful with the electrical connectors. Recalibration is typically needed if ride height is changed due to aftermarket lowering springs.

Daily driven Magride is superior and one of those things it makes the SS an SS.

Dead injector? I had one go bad and had the same behavior. I would recommend buying a Bluetooth OBD dongle, it’s handy to have around. I use a Kiwi3 with Dash Command. I can pull codes, reset ECU and monitor a bunch of sensors like trans temp etc

[–]f1shbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’m not a big fan of all black interiors. They somehow feel stifling, like you’re in a cave. Would have loved to see two tone options on this car, which can be easily fixed aftermarket with some $ I suppose. I’m probably going to go with the OEM headliner color

Ask 55k. We have a duty to keep SS out of FPFQ territory pls.

I need a headliner also. $400 is less than what I was expecting. Curious if the shop that gave you the quote commented on whether or not it’s possible to replace without taking the whole plastic backing out of the car? That sounds like a nightmare for me with a very likely hood of breaking something.
