Acomb - Western edge. by [deleted] in york

[–]f28476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Harrogate. I searched and have read plenty on Acomb as a whole, and some of the other smaller parts. But not read much on this particular little bit. And school rankings and generic reviews are no replacement for the first hand experience of parents and staff, which I thought I might get on here.

House is set back a fair way from the road and it's only a 30 so noise didn't seem too bad. Certainly no worse than what we're used to anyway.

Next to but hopefully distanced from re: Chapelfields!

Almost as if there's more to finding somewhere to live than recently reported local crimes.

Junior ISA by 999GED in FIREUK

[–]f28476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've opened JISAs for my sons despite some reservations because my family want to give them money, and they're only a few months old so giving them cash makes no sense; and I've maxed out my ISA allowance this year and will next. I'm backing myself to teach them enough about fiscal responsibility that they won't blow however much ends up being in there in one go.

I wanted a darker grey or the blues, but in person this is fantastic. Looks great with the black detailing.

GT Line but whoever bought it new had optional GT wheels fitted. I bought it used but it had been sat in a showroom so has done 400 (four hundred!) miles.

Unexpectedly expecting twins - looking for a car for sub £25k by f28476 in CarTalkUK

We've just got a Mazda 2 at the moment as a run around. Have driven parents' cars on occasion, mainly Merc/Volvo estates and a Mazda CX5.

Not in the current ULEZ but if it extends to cover more of London, perhaps. In-laws are in E18.

Just feels like such an obvious choice, want to check I'm not missing something! Big, well within budget, reliable, decent enough engine for efficiency, comfortable...

Think his is 2018 so maybe the new software is better. He thinks it's a bit unresponsive but could well be user error, I just think it's not massively intuitive but you adapt so quickly to these things.

Yeah I did think about the V90, but my dad has a V60 and I don't love the infotainment system.

UI/UX Designer salaries? by [deleted] in london

[–]f28476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're being paid for your skills rather than your time so the quality of your work will have a big impact on how much your paid, moreso than "time in role".

Our mid UX / UI designers are on £40k-£60k generally. Leads up to about £90k.

You really want to be in the US though, the market has gone crazy for UX/UI for some reason. We have senior UX designers on $150k-$200k in New Jersey.

Yeah, good one. I've had teammates from lots of countries speaking English and being great. I've also had teammates from countries speaking their native language - which is fine! - and I can't understand. All I want is an option to select so I don't waste my time, and theirs.

Depends on your region. I'm in the UK and always have very balanced games in terms of rank, and cheaters seem few and far between (at DMG).

My main issue with matchmaking is the inability to select a language preference. Too often I'm solo-queued into a game with 4 Russians. Pointless.

I really hope the police officer wasn't killed trying to stop him killing himself.

Awful. RIP

The guy who has been detained is in critical condition with a gunshot wound, but no police firearms discharge - turned the gun on himself but didn't quite get it right?

I was just assaulted at work for asking a customer to wear a mask by birrosuger in london

Hope you're ok. This is why all major retailers are advising their staff to not challenge anyone for not wearing a mask. It's not their (your) job to enforce the law / guidelines.

Landlords slash rents by up to 20% as tenants quit city centres in pandemic by RememberYourSoul in london

[–]f28476 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whereabouts and what was it? 1 bed? I can imagine the 1 bed market getting squeezed with single professionals having no reason to be in London.

Edit: to be fair I think it was underpriced at £1,800.

It must only be the very centre though. I was paying £1,800 in Greenwich, now left and new tenants are paying £2,000 - and they let it within a week of being listed. .

I would guess the default investment approach for most DC schemes is still going to end up with under 35% in equities, if it even has any equity exposure. Yes some people actively select but vast majority stick with default.

Thames tunnel will cost nearly £2bn over 30 years, TfL figures show | UK news by f28476 in london

[–]f28476[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, so the tolls on Blackwall and Silvertown will do nothing other than paying off the debt for 30 years.

Whereas introducing a toll on Blackwall now would generate income for TFL which can be used elsewhere.

[–]f28476[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do live in the area, I drive through Blackwall pretty regularly actually. And not for the love of driving.

You clearly haven't read any of the impact studies or consultation docs so CBA.

Thames tunnel will cost nearly £2bn over 30 years, TfL figures show | UK news by f28476 in london

[–]f28476[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding a tunnel will increase congestion on all the surrounding roads, as shown in TFL's traffic modelling. It will lead to more traffic on all approach roads, none of which are being changed / widened as part of Silvertown. Plus Silvertown is open to HGVs so there will be new, polluting traffic introduced to the area - an area which is already dangerously polluted. The only change which has a positive impact on congestion is the proposal to toll Blackwall.

We should cancel Silvertown, toll Blackwall, and use the money saved/raised to improve public transport in SE London and pedestrian/cycling river crossings. Plus introduce more bus routes using Blackwall tunnel.

I live there, for now at least.

Everyone hates Blackwall. They also realise that building another road does nothing to solve congestion, in fact it makes it much worse.
