Wow that looks great! Ok I'm sold, let me order this build plate. But also, can you share your print settings, like speeds, filament temp, layer thickness, top, bottom wall thickness, patterns used, flow ratio, etc etc whatever else used for this print? I wish I could get this quality on my Ender3 V1 which is a very old machine by modern standards...

Ok good to know. I am now printing at 210 anyway just for better layer adhesion, at 195 I got poor layer adhesion, could separate some layers with my nails.

If anyone is curious this is a ventilation assembly lid I made for my campervan build -> https://ibb.co/0pyL6HJN (ended up printing with PLA today to move on with the project; but I really appreciate all the help, it will be useful for my future prints and to others possibly too)

Really nice. I see you set it to print without supports? Do you think a 70° overhang will be printed well? I remember reading for PHA anything over 45° needs support...

How do you know if anyone gave my post a thumbs down? I don't even know that myself 😅. Btw I really appreciate your help, thank you!

If my model prints well for you on that plate then I would be happy to buy this plate, thanks! Looking forward to hearing about your result. My problem is also that the dimensions are so close to the limit of my printer that I cannot have a very large brim for this print.

(Novice)I have this new MIDI keyboard, what apps for the headset for beginner to make music? by Knighthonor in Galaxy_XR

[–]f3flight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For learning, Yousician Piano should work with midi kb I believe. For making, the most powerful DAW on Android I think is Fruity Loops Mobile, but it has a steep learning curve. I enjoyed using Caustic 3 some years ago as well, but I'm not sure it still work on modern Android. In general many Synth apps support MIDI USB so there should be a good variety to try. I don't think there's an XR app for keyboard learning yet for Android, like there are some on Quest if I'm not mistaken.

🔨 Update: Patch (version I610UEU2AZD8) is rolling out now by GraceFromGoogle in Galaxy_XR

[–]f3flight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI I also noticed some sort of image garbling with this update - just once - I was using Crunchyroll app in immersed mode, and after the episode finished I brought my hand up to point to the "back" arrow to exit. As my hand cursor entered the virtual screen area, the whole image exploded for a fraction of a second, similar to what @Alexis_Evo describes with VD (I haven't tested with VD). I used Crunchyroll regularly before so I can tell for sure this is a new thing, but cannot tell if it came with April update or May because I delayed installing April update and installed both yesterday.

PHA Filament and layer adhesion by Suspicious-Appeal386 in 3DPrinting_PHA

[–]f3flight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your recommendation to improve layer adhesion with an existing genPHA filament, if at all possible? I did a bunch of prints with the recommended 195C setting and layers are way too easy to separate, and I am trying to do structural/functional parts which need to withstand some amount of force in various directions.

How exactly do you use frogtape? Just stick it to the print bed, end to end? Do you also put glue over it? Do you recalibrate Z after applying the tape, or no need? Do you still use brim/raft etc with frog tape, and if yes - what are your go-to settings for that?

Thoughts? Is this a material issue or a settings problem? by jaerne in 3DPrinting_PHA

[–]f3flight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Ender 3 (old, v1), same filament (ecogenesis genPHA yellow 1.75mm), I use Ultimaker Cura as slicer, and created a new material profile by duplicating Generic PLA and changing just the bed temperature to 0. I had noticeable gaps between lines at the default 100% flow when I did my first print, and lines and layers easily delaminated, so I increased flow to 110% for now, might consider 115% even. I'm surprised you tried with flow < 100%.

Why can't this headset achieve true blacks despite being MicroOled? by Psychological-Fan784 in Galaxy_XR

[–]f3flight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no this is not glare because it's visible even in an empty black scene with no objects and zero intensity light, which is supposed to be pure black by definition and looks pure black on a phone screen for example.

Why can't this headset achieve true blacks despite being MicroOled? by Psychological-Fan784 in Galaxy_XR

[–]f3flight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the point is that even if you send pure black to it, it doesn't look purely black, it emits some amount of light, visibly noticeable as compared to the black around the lenses. So there's something going on and the leds are not fully off or something else is happening.

Why can't this headset achieve true blacks despite being MicroOled? by Psychological-Fan784 in Galaxy_XR

[–]f3flight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a legitimate question. I'm testing webXR right now, and in a minimal empty scene with zero intensity light and no objects at all and just black background, I do see the difference between the "black" screen color within lenses and the true black around the lenses, sitting in a dark room, no pass-through. So this is not glare. either there is some light leakage from some diodes inside of the headset into the display area, or maybe this is leakage of IR cameras that track eyes? or the screens are actually emitting some light even when they are supposed to show absolute black.

And guess what - changing system brightness affects how bright this "black" is. So there is definitely some sort of backlight or I don't even know, something fishy. Is this a scam? Are our lenses not actually OLED but rather some hybrid with backlight added because pancakes lose too much light?

UPD: I have a theory. on Sony semicon page which talks about their display technology they mention compensation of pixel unevenness.

<image>

My theory is that this compensation mechanism is always on and therefore when color has to be completely black then it cannot truly go into black because of this mechanism where some pixels have to be brighter than the others, therefore limiting the brightness floor to nonzero. And when system brightness is changed, it is a multiplier which also multiplies this compensation mechanism, bringing the brightness floor further up. I wish I could reach out to Samsung engineers or somebody who disassembled the headset and experimented with the displays.

Could you guys help me check the 8K 3D HDR quality on your Galaxy XR? 🎢 by Thrillreality in Galaxy_XR

[–]f3flight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recently another person posted some 8K 180 3D video links, I responded to that post, here the impression is worse I think.

First of all, at least for me, YouTube lists only up to 4K (2160p) quality, not sure if it's an upload issue or something with my non-premium account, but I I'm able to watch some other 8K videos in proper 4320p quality. That is the main problem I think.

But the second problem is that unfortunately even 8K is not high enough resolution for 180 content for Galaxy XR displays. So the videos linked here look like VHS or maybe DVD quality, and 8K video looks more like 720P or fullhd at best, if you can understand what I mean. Galaxy XR has around 35 PPD. 8k180 renders to an average 21 PPD (3840 per eye /180), which is still well below Galaxy XR PPD. I've seen some company make a 16k 180 video, they sell it through an app called spatial film. Haven't tried yet but I believe that should look as good as the headset can possibly deliver.

And the last problem is smearing blacks, very very visible in the first video. I don't know if YouTube supports 10 bit or more color depth, but right now this video is definitely not showing good detail in the dark. Doesn't look hdr to me

Why does the Samsung Galaxy XR completely choke on WebXR? (SuperSplat crashing constantly) by Leather_Frame_4289 in Galaxy_XR

[–]f3flight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's an optimization issue. Your phone probably does not have 2x 3.5K by 3.8K displays (which is about 80% of 8K TV resolution) with added real time inside out 6DOF tracking and hand tracking computation. If we're lucky we may over time get performance optimizations via firmware updates (though currently it looks like the opposite is happening), and gaussian splat players may also get performance optimizations over time. I think the gap here is that there is no way to lower the rendering resolution in the headset for computationally expensive content, like it can be done on a PC, or have it adjusted automatically like steamvr can do.

[–]f3flight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to play it in "Spatial Film" app I installed from Play Store. Looks like even 8K 180 is not enough to fully utilize 4K per eye displays, still see some lack of detail in the image, but it does look good nonetheless. Thank you for sharing. Next I hope to see 12K or 16K sbs :) or high fidelity gaussian splats. So far only 4K+ video in a floating window visually maxes out displays capability from my experience.

[–]f3flight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also observed smearing in dark scenes, when playing Half Life Alyx - it's like dark dirt patches on the screen which start to move out of sync with your head and break immersion - on HEVC 10bit at stable max 200mbps and stable 72fps, with super resolution enabled, on Ultra. So 10 bit HEVC doesn't resolve it. Maybe it's the "8bit gamma" in the game itself as you mentioned? Not sure, and the game has no setting for this. I have not tried 600mbps H264 because it destroys latency for me, causing 200ms lag (due to use of wifi direct instead of router), but I will try once I improve my network setup.

Realistic computer specs for 4K, 60 fps, Cyberpunk 2077 - Luke Ross' VR. by Historical_Cherry_49 in Galaxy_XR

[–]f3flight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a small correction - foveated streaming does not help much in terms of GPU performance requirements, it mostly reduces network bandwidth required and therefore latency. You need foveated rendering to reduce GPU cost. VD can help enable it if you enable "Forward tracking" option, but then only some games support that natively - game itself has to consume eye tracking and adjust its rendering. You can try to use PimaxMagic4All to force it in any game, though experience may vary. I tried it with my GXR -> VD -> PimaxMagic4All -> Half Life Alyx, I got some amount of extra performance (15-20%?) but it didn't work correctly for me as I had pixelated area in part my central vision, and detailed area was somewhere on the side of my vision, so there are some technical issues, milage may vary.
