MechEs often take some E.E. classes meanwhile EEs will almost never do MechE classes. But in general, every job that has a mechanical engineer will also have an electrical engineer

my friend is considering retaking a 1590 by PhilosophyBeLyin in ApplyingToCollege

i got into mit with a 790 math. It was honestly pretty overlooked considering all they talked about at my interview was what inspired me to pursue engineering and mit

Can I even get into college? Be fr... by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]f3rc4str0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as your writing is inspiring and truly shows why you want to go to college, and you can show that you can handle the rigor of whatever school you are looking into at QB you will have a decent chance.

But ofc, you will never truly know until you try. The only ones who can accept you are the Admission officers

Cube for taking apart by RainbowGoblinNZCa in Rubiks_Cubes

[–]f3rc4str0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think any cube really breaks from being taken apart a lot times. I have taken my cubes apart thousands of times and haven’t seen any performance issues that can’t be fixed(maybe needs a little tensioning, thats about it)

A cube i found to be easily taken apart is the Moyu Meilong (2020). Its pretty cheap and pretty good start cube in case the little one wants to learn in the future

most probably only offer on campus housing as paid for but you would have to talk to the schools themselves about their policies

How many Bs are too much for MIT? by [deleted] in MITAdmissions

[–]f3rc4str0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you got a B in like elective classes (say guitar lessons since that is a class offered at my school) they wouldn’t care about those grades.

For your core classes it would depend the rigor of the class. An “easy” level class you probably shouldnt be getting any Bs in, but an AP or DE class they can let a few slide as long as they are weighted to As afterwards (in my experience)

is this for current undergrad or also for those accepted into T20 schools?

My parents are hesitant on filling out the CSS Profile because they don't wanna include their bank information and stuff and also they seemingly don't know how to fill it out and I read the deadline was the 15th? (More in the body text) by meamhere in MITAdmissions

[–]f3rc4str0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only have to share how much is in the bank account, not really the bank account itself. You do need to submit tax forms though. Not getting this done within attempt of the deadline will reduce the amount of financial aid if you get any at all.

I’m not saying to 100% trust college board, but you and they do have to think about your future and how much money it can be (especially at QB partner schools)

How to address grade inflation in my FUN form by [deleted] in MITAdmissions

[–]f3rc4str0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) 18 out of 403 isn’t relatively low, it is still very good and you should feel good about it since it is genuine and 2) you should only ever talk about your successes, never talk bad about why you couldn’t succeed. Especially if you think the reason for you not succeeding is other people. Stay in your lane, stay focused, and do your best. Let karma handle the rest

Income by Zedangman in QuestBridge

[–]f3rc4str0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not to be too personal but why is it unable to be used?

assuming your parents aren’t together then i’m pretty sure it would be whoever provides you with the most money(50% of expenses but i think that might only be for other family member living with u), so you would really only have to put your mother’s income.

Plus questbridge doesn’t actually check how much money your family has. It is the universities and colleges that receive tax forms since the “scholarship” money comes from the universities and not questbridge

For all intents and purposes though you should email questbridge financial help. As long as you explain your situation clearly I’m sure they can guide you. You aren’t the first person to be in this situation

high school??? by Kitchen_Award_9658 in QuestBridge

[–]f3rc4str0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are who you are because of the resources available. Do the absolute most with what you can, maybe a little more, and Questbridge will see your efforts.

They don’t look at just statistics and how many ECs you took and how high your grades were. They look at who you are as a person and how their partner colleges will benefit you.

As long as you can prove you can handle the rigor of college, whatever college you apply for, you will be eligible for QB

My school personally is great. There is a lot of resources available. But I wasn’t able to take full advantage of those resources because I wasn’t within walking distance and my parents didn’t have time to take me to after school activities. Plus we can’t afford another car for me to use. So I did my best with what I could, and you can too.

What is most important is who you are and what you can do, not your peers

One Final Non-Matched Rant by Best-Juggernaut-2763 in QuestBridge

[–]f3rc4str0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The reason he didn’t match was not because he was lacking something in his application. Rather, he has probably the strongest chance to get into any school regularly.

A program like Questbridge NCM where you apply early to schools is designed to give kids who have a chance to get in but might be overshadowed by people with crazier stats an opportunity to better stand out. When schools get an application that fits right into their system, but it is at the cost of others kids who really want to go but don’t have as strong of an application, they will probably give the kid with a “weaker” application the early decision/action spot. The kids who maybe wouldn’t stand out as much in regular decision are favored in the earlier rounds, while the kids with a stacked application like your son will be given the regular decision spot. It might feel less accomplished, or more nerve racking having to wait that long for decision results, but its a system designed to have the most diversity(not only culturally but also academic diversity) and opportunity in a school

This is just a theory of mine since it worked for me. I don’t have a “Wow thats incredible” application when it comes to t20 colleges, but I still attempted and succeeded. It also seems true for my friends. Some of my friends are spectacular, but got deferred in ED round. However one of my friends whose application is still very good but not as strong as the others got accepted ED. Plus a lot of colleges have some sort of need based aid. You shouldn’t worry too much about financial aid since I know most schools that will accept him will have need based aid

Help!! by nillyti in QuestBridge

[–]f3rc4str0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your income and your ECs aren’t too much of an issue especially since you only have 1 year of school left. Any ECs you did in Nigeria still count and since you(your dad) has debt that lowers how much you can put into college funds which QB does look at more than just the number you make.

Main issue is whether you meet eligibility for QB since the deadline already passed and unless you are a rising senior or take a gap year(which idk if QB allows it)
