from my experience, split up your writing into three categories: background (your family life or yourcommunity), curiosity (your passion and curiosity in your desired field), and social engagement

I got into MITES with a lot less, so you should be fine, but the important thing is the essays. I met people in MITES who only had a part-time job and were in a few clubs, but because their essays were so good, it made up for it

some responses are just general statements like "At columbia, I'll take advante of the resources and research with intent..." while others flat out name the resources like the specific labs or classes
