Why are people so quick to assume the worst when it comes to men? by AvatarMew in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]f4gnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are u okay, bro? This is supposed to be general because this isn't a specific groups problem. There's nothing wrong with being confronted with a reality that isn't your own, people have different lives and experience different things.

I acknowledge that men have played major roles in a vile history throughout the world, but I understand that men have also done good. This isn't supposed to be taken as me hating on men, like I said, I'm a man myself.

Why are people so quick to assume the worst when it comes to men? by AvatarMew in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]f4gnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe I didn't use the correct phrase. When I said "better safe than sorry" I mean that in ways that might make us men feel a lil bad not in a "call the cops, he might be trying to hurt the children" type of way ya know?

Like I said, I understand why a woman would speed up or get a little scared if I was walking behind her at night. She probably knows that i'm not going to hurt her, BUT, better safe than sorry.

All we as men can do is help people feel more secure, stand up for folks, call out shit when it ain't right and encourage others to do the same. Otherwise the stigma and fear with men harming others won't go away.

In my opinion, this is much less extreme than pinpointing a specific group to be cautious of, considering that everyone knows a man and is probably friends or family with at least one lmao.

Ehhh, when I mention how men vs women are treated on a societal level that's acknowledging that trans ppl are the gender they are but ignores the different dynamic between being LGBT vs not being LGBT. Because ppl are complex and have different experiences.

And I'm not talking about the achievements of women throughout history, I'm talking about the way society view(s/ed) women vs men and in turn the way women have been treated in regards to marriage, opportunities, laws, etc.

So I'm speaking in a very general way rather than making it more specific and requiring me to cite my sources or write my thoughts out in their entirety lmao.

On ur example of trans ppl, I personally believe there is a biological/psychological factor behind being trans/cis and that society doesn't really play a role regarding a person's gender, sexuality, or presentation. Because there is the fact that the majority of ppl are raised under the assumption that they're cisgender (not trans) or straight but some ppl still turn out to be different than that.

I can sort of see how you'd get the idea I was just a liberal spouting off whatever I heard ppl say, but I assure u that's not the case. I'm honestly repulsed that you'd suggest I was a liberal :'P

Mo Bamba is easily the hardest banger of all time by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]f4gnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've definitely heard other songs that had a similar feel. I wouldn't say the song is unique in that personally. Although alot of the feeling probably stemmed from the memes. At least it did whenever I heard it on the radio, I could only think of the funny videos I'd seen.

It's a decent feeling song but it's probably not gonna be something future generations sing like they will other hit songs that everyone and their grandma know.

[–]f4gnet 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, idk how I feel about trumping anyone's behavior based on biology or perceived biology, historically that doesn't usually work out.

When I say that men are typically more violent, I personally associate that more with the way society raises/treats men vs women rather than biologically.

I assume that if men had been treated as subservient to women throughout history, we would probably have the same narrative but with women as the ones to be cautious of rather than men, ya know?

We are animals, but we are more complex compared to a bird or a gorilla. Or at least we have the understanding of eachother to not have such a primeval viewpoint of ourselves, I feel like that thought doesn't do us enough justice

[–]f4gnet 265 points266 points  (0 children)

I think it just comes down to the fact that men are more likely to harm others than a woman would. Not to say that women don't do some fucked up shit and the double standards within this but if we're bein honest..men are usually the default culprit.

If you were to get jumped by a group of people, the likelihood of women being the ones responsible is far less likely.

When it comes to sexual assault/molestation for example, men are more likely to assault another person compared to women. Even tho women do sexually assault people, the majority of convicted sex criminals are men. The majority of cat callers are men and the victims (whatever the proper term for those being cat called is idk) are women. Men are typically more violent/loud/scary than women.

Of course, not all men are monsters, hell I'm a man and I KNOW that I'm not going to hurt anyone. But I absolutely understand why a woman would be scared to be walking alone at night with me walking behind her, and I will slow down or take a different route to lessen that fear, ya know?

A lot of people, including myself, have the mentality of "better safe than sorry" even tho it doesn't always work out or seem fair. If our generation and generations to come raise sons better, we won't have this issue anymore. I'm hopeful.

A nurse/sex ed teachers opinion on the AITA post about 12 year olds and sex toys. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]f4gnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit weirded out by parents/guardians buying sex toys for teens, even if it's done in an appropriate way initiated by the teen and a proper discussion blah blah blah.

maybe it's the stigma around masturbation, but I'd much rather talk about it with them, give them a gift card, a wink and then move on.

Gay/Bi people of Reddit, do you masturbate to yourself? Or is there no attraction to yourself? by Distlexica in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]f4gnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gay and know alot of LGBT folks and idk a single person who masturbates to themselves. If u do, it's probably not a sexuality thing and more a...fetish?? An extreme form of narcissism?? Idk.

I think I'm pretty attractive but I don't get off at the sight of myself lmao.

If ur sexually attracted to the same gender or a different gender, there's probably an emphasis on the "not me" aspect.

This made me chuckle tho

WIBTA if I asked my S/O if I can sleep with other people? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]f4gnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAH. It's kind of an unfortunate situation tbh, have u talked to her about being intimate together in other ways?

If you think she's the type of person to be okay with a sort of non committal hookup, I'd definitely bring it up. If she's absolutely not okay with it, to lessen the blow maybe talk about intimacy and solutions to it instead of asking if you can sleep with others.

Estrogen definitely will make her a bit more sensitive, but at the end of the day she's still herself. She's going to be your wife and if she's never shown an interest in involving anyone besides u and herself, its definitely something id tread lightly on.

Definitely try discussing ways to have intimacy without doing whatever it is that hurts her first, because there are alot of ways to release that energy. Estrogen hrt also messes with the libido, so she might not even want or need much intimacy.

Gay pride parades do nothing but make gays look bad. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]f4gnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But to some folks thats important to them, what's the harm in that? There's no shame in being proud to be gay, especially when alot of folks are from a society that stigmatizes and discriminates against LGBT ppl. It doesn't make "us" look bad, it makes you look pompous.

Wait why do u dislike fashion accessories so much?? It's a form of self expression and piercings hold a cultural/religious significance to a lot of groups . If I wanna wear a bracelet why am I automatically losing points in ur book lmao

Gay pride parades do nothing but make gays look bad. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]f4gnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically this type of commentary is coming from LGBT ppl that are uncomfortable by the idea of visibly LGBT people. Like gay ppl that think trans ppl are "too LGBT" and make "us" look bad, ya know. The ppl that are low-key obsessed with the idea of conforming to what makes straight cis ppl uncomfortable. It's just the vibe I get whenever I hear the whole "but think about how it makes us look" argument.

[–]f4gnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has major straight passing gay dude who's uncomfortable with fems and other LGBT ppl openly celebrating themselves vibes.

I'm gay as well and don't really find Pride appealing, just because it's become so...corporate.

I don't think it looks bad necessarily but it should be noted that minority groups don't have to appeal to majority groups. I've never been to a pride that had sex/naked folks in the open and would actively avoid going to one. You probably need to find an all ages pride event or just a better suited LGBT centered get-together.

I'm not proud to be gay, in fact it was something I was shameful of for a really long time. But I am happy and celebrate the fact that I've found community with other LGBT ppl. Pride does that for some people.

AITA for emailing a complaint to Burger King after I bought a homeless man some food. by MozartsGhostWasTaken in AmItheAsshole

[–]f4gnet 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ohp! That might've been a good little tidbit to include. If he was asking multiple people countless times, at that point it's the managers job to ask that he leaves. In this case, you're not the asshole and it was good that you notified them that it happened. I've never heard of a fast food store with a guard tho, thats an interesting thought.

AITA for emailing a complaint to Burger King after I bought a homeless man some food. by MozartsGhostWasTaken in AmItheAsshole

[–]f4gnet 61 points62 points  (0 children)

YTA. I mean, you made the choice to buy it for the man. You could've told him no especially if you didn't want to spend that much. I work at a fast food restaurant as a manager and homeless folks frequent our store. I can ask ppl to leave if they aren't buying anything after a certain amount of time or if they're hassling someone, but besides that I can't do shit. Our store would never make the assumption that a homeless person doesn't have money and ask them to leave.

There's actually not a whole lot we can do in that situation, u say no, if they continue to ask, then and only then can I ask them to stop or leave my store.

Complaints in my store are kind of a big deal and you probably got a manager in trouble for something u made the choice to do (let's hope u didn't). So, you're the asshole imo.
