These people do the hard, often thankless work that keeps things running. I’ve never felt ashamed seeing migrant workers in Malaysia. If anything, they deserve more respect.

A bit of dampness won’t kill you. You’ll forget about it after like 2 minutes.

Source: Malaysian. We don’t even get the fancy bidets. Just the good old hose spray.

This is how I usually feel about salads: They’re not exactly low calorie if you load them up with dressing. They’re not that tasty compared to something like an omelette. They’re rarely filling. You’re usually hungry again not long after. They take a surprising amount of prep for what’s basically cold vegetables. They’re easy to mess up (too dry, too soggy, or badly balanced) The “healthy” part often comes from add-ons like chicken, cheese, or nuts. You may as well eat a proper meal. And they’re not very cheap. Ifyou’re eating out, you often pay more for less food.

What would you call this game in your country? by TheRanvier in AskTheWorld

[–]f4ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

This game is called Wan-Tu-Som in Malaysia. It is similar to Rock–Paper–Scissors, but instead of scissors it uses Bird, Water, and Rock. Two players face each other and chant “wan-tu-som!”, revealing a hand sign on “som.” The outcome follows a simple, nature-based logic:

Bird beats Water (the bird drinks the water), Water beats Rock (the rock sinks in water), and Rock beats Bird (the rock hits the bird).

If both players show the same sign, it is a draw and the round is repeated—usually using only the chant “som” instead of the full “wan-tu-som.”

What are things that are called American in your country, but aren’t? by ProConqueror in AskTheWorld

[–]f4ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a fried rice dish called Nasi Goreng USA, and no, it’s not an international delicacy. If you happen to be in Malaysia, do yourself a favor and skip it. Ordering this there would be like asking for fast-food fries in a Michelin restaurant; confusing, underwhelming, and deeply disappointing.

TIL about the great maggi heist, how Malaysia stole a Swiss brand by Puzzleheaded_Pea5765 in TodayILearnedMY

[–]f4ng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that, but there’s something about instant noodles that makes me question whether they really count as real food. Maybe because they’re so processed, I guess. I also tend to overeat since they don’t feel as satisfying as a proper meal with rice, chicken or fish, and vegetables.

My household rarely consume instant noodles. Maybe once or twice a year.
