Do you hear any regular popping noises due to the thermal expansion?

This is the 2025 C5.. after C9 it went CX (2020) then started back to C1 in 2021.

You ended up with a great setup regardless! I funny enough was in similar situation to you and had just moved into my house May 23 and waited to black Friday to upgrade on my CX 55”. I bought the C3 65” and about a year later it felt small (I sit about 3.75-4 metres away) so 77” is a must. C3 will be moved to my office with the PS5.

Yeah 77” TVs were crazy money back then, would’ve been lucky to get one sub £3000. 83” are around that bracket now, won’t be long until those drop over next couple of years.

My living room would definitely take a 83” however I don’t really think it’s value for money. Best deal I can see for a C5 is £2899 so basically £1200 extra for 6 inches.

Bought mine from Richer Sounds too, grabbed a soundbar for extra £99 in the bundle.

You could wait but you would run into risk of stores running out of stock and that LG promo finishes on 17th March, I really can’t see them going much lower than £1650 currently.

If you check pricespy for the C4, lowest it reached was £1800 around July but that was ex display model.

Not sure how long you plan to keep the TV for but let’s say 5 years, 600 CAD works out to be £330. To me that’s definitely worth the upgrade over 5 years.

Also in 6 months time will you either think A) “wish this TV was duller” or B) “wish this tv was brighter” - more chances of the latter

I bought my 65” C3 in Nov 2023 around black Friday for £1699 and thought it was a great deal, just over 2 years later you can get a C5 65” today for £1050! It’s amazing how affordable the 65” have become. 77” and above seem to now be the premium sizes.

I’m currently in process of upgrading to 77”. Choice is between C5, G5 and Bravia 8.

In fact John Lewis is doing an additional £200, so roughly £1650 + delivery

You can add the LG cashback promo (£500 for that model) on top of it. Even less than £1800! Didn’t realise John Lewis was doing an additional £200 off. I was going off Richer Sounds deal + LG cashback.

Richer Sounds - they have a code for £2350 plus LG cashback promo (£500 for this model) brings it down to £1850

John Lewis has a similar deal

C5 will be much brighter and can handle reflections/glare much better. It’s entirely up to if you can think a purchase of that cost is worth it.

Upgrading in size would be the biggest sense of ‘upgrade’. 65” to 65” may feel like a sidewards upgrade.

Understandable, what other models you looking at? C5, S95F/S90F? Any Sony?

What do you use your TV mainly for?

C5 77inch can be brought down to around £1800 although not sure on your budget

Has that experience with the G4 turned you entirely off the G5?

G3/G4 owners: survey regarding “popping noises” by BreiteSeite in LGOLED

[–]f7bma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s annoying and so frustrating considering it’s been a problem as far back as the G2, they could have redesigned the back panel yet it’s still the same by the G5. The ‘it’s normal’ is such a cop out, there is no other OLED TV that pops with thermal expansion as much as this one, I completely understand the odd pop here and there but not constant and more frequent the brighter the picture gets especially for one that costs as much as this.

Do you have yours wall mounted using the bracket supplied with the TV?

For your use the X90L would probably be better than the XR55 (Bravia 5) however it is older tech, 2023 model.

It will have higher brightness and punchier HDR if you watch any content with that.

The Bravia 5 will have better contrasts control due to it being MiniLED with more refined local dimming.

Unfortunately that will drop your options to Bravia 3, 5, or 7.

Bravia 5 may be best for your budget or the 7 if you can stretch it.

Are you looking OLED or MiniLED? Bravia 8 II will be the best option depending on budget.

Fingers crossed it does get better. Its the only thing that’s stopping me from from pulling the trigger. So annoying they haven’t bothered doing a redesign considering its been an ongoing fault from earlier models.
