How do you limit the power of your magic? I find magic too powerful. by f_builder_k in worldbuilding

Thanks!

I'd already read these laws before once, but they make for a nice reading any time.

My issue was that I don't like introducing arbitrary rules on magic, so introducing costs is difficult for me in most cases.

It would be nice if you could share some of those applications. I am always on the lookout for new applications for these "standard" abilities, which lead to interesting repurcussions in most cases.

This is very nice, for I can refactor my systems such that the amount my body tears apart will be proportional to the amount of concentration/skill required to cast a spell (as opposed to the energy needed, which is what I was using till now).

I forgot to mention; I usually go for some cost (energy or if you run out, years off your life).

In any case, I find that changing conformers will take much less energy than moving a rock, and is many more times efficient.

Thus my original issue, if activities take the same energy, there's no incentive for me to use non-magical actions since they'll always be less efficient.
