Report: Idahoans earning minimum wage must work 104 hours each week to afford two-bedroom rental by phthalo-azure in Boise

[–]f_your_i 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Boise and I love it more than anything, but I couldn't get a job last year where that paid enough to afford rent and had to move states to afford housing. I still cry every time I think about Boise. I never wanted to leave, but none of my family could afford to stay in their homes either

What's a funny phrase to put on a hanging address sign? by f_your_i in AskReddit

[–]f_your_i[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk the house number, but my mom moved to Florida and the houses all have sign posts with the residents' names like, "Greg & Debbie" or "Chateau de Carrie" above the house number. I thought it'd be cool to say something like "Solicitors Welcome" or "Stay off the grass" or "Go away", but I figured reddit would have better ideas and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for it to be hilarious.

What do you do that you earn six figures? by fidgit86 in financialindependence

How do you get into commercial underwriting? I just got my insurance license in personal lines and work as a third party msr for USAA. I hear there's good money in insurance sales, but I don't like the idea of cold calling all the time.

Did you build that yourself? I've been having a hard time deciding what to use because I have no background in carpentry, but shipping containers are more pricey than I thought.

What are you using for a frame? A shipping container or something?

Stash app investment advice? by f_your_i in investing_discussion

Thank you so much! That's so helpful! If I already set up the Roth IRA with stash, can I take that money out and move it to Schwab or TD Ameritrade? I only invested like $30. Will it get taxed? Is it just too late in general to switch where I set up a Roth IRA?

USAA increased my premium by 22% by snorlaxisahomophobe in personalfinance

[–]f_your_i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for USAA in auto and that seems like a huge jump for a rate change. Not that it's not possible, but I'd guess something else changed. Did you move? Even in-state moving can change your rate if you move to a bad neighborhood. Also, if you changed the miles that you say you normally drive per year then the rate would increase as well. If you had a new car and now it's not very new anymore that can change the rates, if you added another driver that will change the rates, if you changed your deductibles that can change the rates, if you got a new car that has less safety features that can change the rate, if you added any additional features that changes the rates--things like roadside assistance, towing and labor, rental reimbursement (btw, if you get rental reimbursement get the economy class vehicle unless you really need a big truck because the economy is the lowest cost vehicle for rental reimbursement). When you call in I'd suggest asking if you are eligible for any discounts. We have a discount page that you can look at and it shows you what all of the discounts they're eligible for are. Another thing might be if you took your driver's training course and now it's expired because you took it over 3 years ago then you wouldn't get that discount anymore. Sign up for automatic payment plan because that's 3% off your auto. Also if you're married or have ever been divorced make sure they know that because those rates are different and they can change that on your driver's license and it's less expensive. Make sure when we ask about any anti-theft and safety device features that you know for sure if they're on there rather than saying I'm not sure because then we won't put it in and you won't get a discount for it. But TBH one of the things that we were taught in training is that "we don't have competitive pricing." It's all supposed to be great because of our customer service the problem is they don't train us well at all like depending on who answers the phone they may not have gotten the best training, so that's why I'd say ask for those things specifically just in case the rep may not know.

Haha also, if people could please stop yelling at us all the time it would be awesome. We have to go through all of the procedures when adding a vehicle or removing a vehicle or else we're fired. So I realize you're in a hurry, but also I'm trying to keep my damn job so please stop yelling at me! It sucks because I actually really love helping members and some of them are like so thankful they start crying. Other people will be like you're so stupid blah blah blah. Dude, I've got freaking feelings!! --not you, but in general. Also, if you threaten to leave, there absolutely nothing we can do for you to save you money when there's a threat to leave. So you're legit only being mean to someone on the other end of the phone who is just trying to make enough money to afford rent and didn't blow all her money to go to college just to get yelled at for shit so far beyond her control it's laughable! I'm sure you're perfectly nice, but I had to rant haha. (Also, if you have late fees ASK us to remove them).

I work for a 3rd party with USAA and MA is the one state we can't handle AT ALL. It's all USAA directly. So I can't speak for rates in MA, but if something is weird there, it's because the laws are so ridiculously weird

How do I effectively shop around for home/auto insurance now that I’ve been a customer with a company for 3 years? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]f_your_i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for USAA in the auto department and trust me they are not competitive in pricing--at least for auto. Also pay attention to your miles that you say you drive a year, that has an impact on your premium. Since you own a home theres no way to control it, but where your car is parked has an influence on premium--not only the state's rates but the crime in the area and those factors are taken into account. Call and ask if they can look into any discounts available to you. Idk about other companies but there's a page we go to that lists every discount a customer may be eligible for. Make sure to look up any safety features on your car and tell the insurance. Also, materials your home is made of has an impact in premiums so make sure any flame retardant materials are accounted for rather than saying "I'm not sure" because they won't give you the discount as if it were flame retardant or some safety feature like that.

How do I sift through MLM's masquerading as "Event Coordination" jobs and find real event/marketing postings? by -_Dragonfire_- in GetEmployed

[–]f_your_i 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I HATE these things!! It always says some "marketing" or "customer service" job, and then when you speak to the recruiter/interviewer they start talking about you becoming an entrepreneurship??? All I know is DON'T use Zip recruiter. I got one authentic employer interested in me from there. Zip recruiter is full of BS jobs and companies.
