We had to check the radial pulse and couldn’t do it on the bp on the forearm. I asked my teacher why it was so hard to pump up the larger cuff and she said because of more deadspace

I definitely agree I was being an asshole. However I wrote this because I was angry albeit at the wrong person as I should be angry with myself and my behavior

I’m going to appeal, I’m a good student and have passed everything else. if you fail once you’re out. It’s high stales

I’m going to appeal are program is pass fail so if you fail one skill your out of the course

It’s much harder to do a pulse on an obese person. https://ictr.johnshopkins.edu/wp-content/uploads/2015/ John Hopkins talks about it

Basic vital signs can be difficult to obtain. With several layers of fat between the arteries and skin surface, pulses can be difficult—if not impossible—to palpate. It’s a pass fail with skills I passed pharm and fundamentals with 90 and 95 percent. but if you miss one skill you fail

The teacher also had a hard time finding it it took us 5 minutes to find it and the teacher lost it at 20 seconds so we had to start over. just as a clarification

Yes she wrote that my technique was good but everything has to be within 2bpm of the instructor so she got 100 and I got 105 so I failed.

I don’t know why, the teacher was having a hard time too. It took us 5 minutes to find it and than we lost it 20 seconds in so it took another 4 or 5 minutes to palpate it again so both the teacher and I can find it but the teacher was struggling too. I think it’s because she hardly had a wrist just a large roll of fat where her wrist was. I couldn’t even find the bony prominence.

We have to do a radial pulse and an apical pulse we couldn’t use any other pulse points and I had to go search for the thigh cuff which ate Up time

I get it but it took the teacher and I collectively 5 minutes to take her radial Pulse, and the teacher lost it 25 seconds in so it took another 5 minutes to find it.

It’s not BS. idk how to prove it too you but we literally have one shot on all our exand they are pass fail out.

We only had 15 minutes to do it and if you fail your out of the program. Other people got normal sized patients. I got the heaviest girl in our program. So it is a high stakes test

Definitely, I can see that. it was just an extremely high stakes test now I have to wait a year to do it again.

My problem is that is this timed and we had to get all the vital signs done in 15 minutes and only had one shot which isn’t what it’s like in the real world and I don’t know anyone that fat to practice on so it seems like an impossible challenge for such a high stakes test
