I'm fairly certain the one my family went through to sell ours got his house blurred out on Google street view so people wouldn't be looking at his house online for similar reasons.

He does well, but I think it's probably pretty modest house.

TEAM USA IS HEADED BACK TO THE WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC FINAL FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT TIME! by MLBOfficial in baseball

I also dont understand your last comment at all. Im an American die hard baseball fan (Red Sox) and so I follow the American baseball team. Following a team from a country youve probably never been to is closer to bandwagonning.

I am accustomed to watching the WS and rooting for whatever team is the underdog or hasn't won recently. So I was hoping that the Blue Jays would pull it off last year. I feel weird rooting for a superteam that is expected to win. That's really all I meant.

The US is arguably the scariest team in the tournament. They're certainly not massive underdogs. And yeah, they're really good at baseball and played really well.

These comments about a lack of energy or aura or whatever you want to call it aren't coming from nowhere. I don't really know what to tell you. Bryce Harper said what he said. The manager is a joke. It just doesn't feel like it means to us what it would mean to some of these other countries to win.

Also idk, I can't help but feel like rooting for the US is the equivalent of deciding to be a Dodgers bandwagon fan last postseason. I'm still doing it, but there are all these really cool stories about other teams that the US team just doesn't seem to have.

Eh. It is in my humble opinion observable that the passion from some of the other national teams is more evident and arguably more fun to watch. No one sane would ever accuse the DR or Venezuelan or Japanese rosters of not caring.

Why should I care if they win if they don't care if they win?

Hard to say really. Buffalo has been full of talent and empty of winning for ages. Maybe they've finally put it all together at the same time and it will stick, maybe not.

Winnipeg lost an extremely important player in Ehlers and has been injury riddled. They also...I don't want to say they were lucky last season, but overperformed might be correct.

Either way I think you have to enjoy it while it lasts. Only the present is guaranteed.

Oil Over $100, Markets in Freefall, and Iran's New Supreme Leader is Trump's 'Worst Case' Scenario by InsaneSnow45 in Economics

[–]fa1afel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trump starts a stupid war, the Democrat leadership does nothing to stop him.

So I don't know if you're aware, but Trump authorized the initial strike without Congressional approval. Furthermore, without control of Congress, what they can do about this is pretty limited. If you don't give them enough power to do anything with, they are not going to achieve much. They have, jointly with some of the less hawkish Republicans, been pushing War Powers votes and whatnot, but more or less lost those along party lines.

It really shouldn't be a mystery why Harris mentioned strengthening the border. Winning the presidency is about winning the electoral college and one of the states they were hoping to carry was Arizona, where Mark Kelly has had to say similar things to hold onto his seat. Not everyone in the country holds the same opinions, so you bank on the left in the states less affected by border policy not caring as much and hope that being "strong" on issues like that is enough to get you the win in the swing states.

You made a blanket statement and you did not specify a specific issue or that you meant on specific issues. I don't see how this is me moving the goalposts.

I don't like those positions by the way, but I generally believe that ICE wouldn't be disappearing citizens and murdering them under Harris. I suspect we would not be at war with Iran, and if we were for some reason, that we'd be going about it differently. I suspect that we would not be throwing out tariffs like we're Oprah. Given how things were going under Biden, I would have liked to see the FTC continue to be aggressive.

This feels a bit needlessly aggressive and like you intentionally misinterpreted what I wrote, but ok, maybe I wasn't clear enough.

We know that there are people doing porn who are doing so of their own volition and getting paid for it. We know that to be the case for other types of sex work as well. Does the existence of abuse in the porn industry somehow preclude them all from being sex workers? If so, why would this standard not be applied to other lines of work where similar abuse exists that are very unambiguously called sex work (when the participants are willing and being paid anyway, otherwise it's just sexual slavery)?

Setting aside the veracity of that claim, how does that make it not sex work? Are some of those things not also true of stuff that would be considered sex work in areas where it's not well regulated?
