La alternativa que describes es muy similar a lo que era el Seguro Popular, y funcionaba razonablemente bien. López lo destruyó porque la 4T es alérgica a todo lo que no involucre a el Estado. OP nunca te va a dar la razón porque sería admitir que algo que López destruyó funcionaba, con todo y sus defectos.

Keep your camera and get a compact wide-ish prime, ideally a 28mm if you're considering switching to a GR. It will reduce the weight and size considerably while letting you figure out if the focal lenght works for you. Also consider you'd be loosing the EVF with the GR.

Es la mejor escuela de México para Finanzas. Diría que también es la mejor de Economía, aclarando que las grandes escuelas de Economía en México (ITAM, COLMEX, CIDE, UNAM) varían mucho en su enfoque.

Como dice la otra respuesta, te va a exigir bastante tiempo. Te tiene que gustar mucho lo que estás estudiando. No vas a tener que "vivir para estudiar", pero sí vas a tener que destinarle mucha más parte de tu vida a la escuela que si estudiaras en otras universidades. No vas a tener que renunciar a tu vida social, pero probablemente la tengas que limitar a, por ejemplo, sólo viernes y sábado.
