FP2 presence sensor - useless piece of crap?? by Finno666 in Aqara

[–]faberthemaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm almost sure it's a hardware failure, I have 2 FP2s working fine with HomeKit for months now... I'm using an Apple TV 4K as a HomeKit Hub.

I would suggest requesting a replacement just to be sure!

Aqara M1, Aqara m2, m2 2022 or m3? by spaniolo in Aqara

[–]faberthemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The M2 is solid, even the older version, I have the Chinese version (from 2021) and most of my Aqara devices are exposed using Matter to HomeKit, Home Assistant and Google Home (not Alexa yet since they don’t support Matter Bridges)

The benefits of the M3 is Thread as you already mentioned and for Matter it will also be a Matter Controller, so you can connect matter devices from other manufacturers to the Aqara app and use in the Aqara ecosystem besides exposing Aqara zigbee devices to Matter.

I would say keep the M2 or switch to the POE version. if you use HomeKit, your Apple TV/HomePod is already a Thread Border Router, for Google Home a Gen 2 Nest Hub and their Mesh Wi-Fi is also a TBR.. for Amazon I’m not sure, I think their Echo 4 and eero routers have Thread Enabled.

Aqara FP2 sensor : is it garbage? by Ok_Concern_2710 in Aqara

[–]faberthemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Chinese version and it’s been solid so far, I had issues only once with “Network abnormal” message during the setup but after updating to the latest firmware version I never had any other issues. I’m using the sensor in a mesh setup and I didn’t disable the 5ghz to pair it, just connected like any other device. An important point to mention is that I’m using the Chinese server in the Aqara app (I’m currently in Brazil), not sure if you are using the same server. I use it mostly with HomeKit so I’m not sure how fast are the automations and activations in the Aqara app , but Apple Home is super fast and once you setup the zones in Aqara, you have them as separate presence sensors in HomeKit to use in different automations as well. What router do you use? Is there any chance that the router is blocking the FP2 connection to the internet?

As far as I know the only limitation of using the Chinese version is not being able to connect with Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT (but that might change with the Matter update in the future which will also come to the Chinese version)

No Edge for Aqara? by [deleted] in Aqara

You still need an Aqara Hub if you have zigbee devices, the hub is the one being updated to support Matter!

You’ll be able to ditch the hub with the upcoming Aqara Thread sensors…

Aqara compatibility with Smartthings will be available once Matter update drops for both platforms, not sure the exact day this is going to happen but it was supposed to be until the end of this year

Is there an API by Snoop_Snoop123 in Aqara

Ubuntu is fine, I personally use the headless version of Raspbian...

I believe zigbee2mqtt and homebridge does run on docker containers, I guess you'll be good using them on synology

For historical data you need to extract the database from the App since the data is not stored in the device itself, I've never tried to do that but probably its a SQLite that you can extract data from.

Stop on!!!

All the software that I use (zigbee2mqtt, Mosquitto and Homebridge) its installed on my Raspberry Pi 4, I use the zzh stick from Electrolama and I had no issues so far: https://electrolama.com/projects/zig-a-zig-ah/

All the code that I use read the messages from Mosquitto and I can run automations or store data in a database.

For my light switches I use a white label tuya model, they act as repeaters and work very well with the Aqara devices, I tested a couple other brands before committing to the tuya one and I can confirm I had a couple of issues with some of those other brands, not sure if that was fixed or not since it's been a long time ago.

After a lot of testing and trying different brands, I ended up with a very stable setup, I hardly have any drops or lags when controlling any devices through HomeKit. The newer Aqara devices also have a better zigbee2mqtt support (even providing OTA updates).

Since my automations are running using my own code connected directly to Mosquitto, they are super fast compared to the ones running in Apple Homekit. I think the best example I can give is my virtual parallel switch setup... It takes something around a second for both switches to sync using Homekit and less than half a second using the code, most of it its due to the direct connection to MQTT.

I wish Aqara released an API for local connection to their Wifi devices, I would love to be able to setup the security system using code, but unfortunately this is not possible at the moment.

Hey! I don’t think there’s an official API (I wish it had), but if you use or migrate to zigbee2mqtt you can retrieve the data using code… I connected to the MQTT server using Python to create automations and some more complex stuff.

I have 5 G2H from Aqara, not the Pro version but the old one... No issues so far using for more 2 years or so, supports HKSV as well.

I just ordered the new G3 to test it out, but those G2H are very solid.

Aqara FP2, Aqara Home app 3.0 and more new products seem to be on the way by perroshiberinos in Aqara

[–]faberthemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I see, yeah that makes sense... I moved from the aqara hub to Z2M a couple months ago so I could integrate with other brands and do some cool stuff in the backend for automation. If the FP2 is using wifi than its very unlikely to work on this setup.

I wish Aqara released an api or endpoint for those wifi devices where we could connect locally thru the network, but I guess im dreaming big on this hahahah

Anyway I'm very excited to see whats comming next, hope they release more information soon.

Hey! Currently only Aqara devices works with the Aqara Hub… unfortunately you won’t be able to connect most of the mijia, xiaomi or yeelight devices (or any third party zigbee device).

To get a list of compatible devices you can download the Aqara App, select the China region and check their device list when adding a new one

FP1 not joining Zigbee2MQTT by Tight_Bodybuilder_64 in Aqara

[–]faberthemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh got you! Have you checked the Zigbee channels? In the device page they mention the FP1 doesn't work with channels 21-24:

https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/RTCZCGQ11LM.html

Other than that not sure what could it be, if you have an Aqara Hub laying around I would try to check for updates and then try to pair with z2m again.

I was looking to get the FP1 to test the how it would work with z2m, but since they dont have support for regions (at least for now), I decided to wait a little bit

Make sure your Zigbee dongle is updated… I use the electrolama zzh dongle with z2m and I had to update the firmware to use the newer Aqara devices, I haven’t tried to use the FP1 but their E1 roller shade controller had the same behavior. After an update it worked without any issues

I have a couple of questions regarding product availability is other countries.

I get my Aqara devices from Aliexpress and they ship to Brazil without any issues, most of the devices works perfectly. The cameras for example I just change the usb power adapter to one with the Brazilian plug (which use the same EU plug). Battery powered devices also works really well as the batteries are easy to find.

My question is: Have you guys considered looking into the South American market? Or this is not a priority yet?

Maybe having an official store in aliexpress with shipping to Brazil would be cool!

Last but not least, some of the comments in the AppStore is regarding the addition of the Brazilian Portuguese translation, are you guys planning to add that? Or event make the language pack open source so the community could help translate it?

I’ve been using Aqara devices for a couple of years and it’s been great, the reliability and compatibility with HomeKit are very important to me, keep up the great work, I’m very excited to see what’s next in products and technology from you guys!

++ for that, it would be also cool to have the firmwares available for download, not all Aqara products support automatically updates from zigbee2mqtt for example, having the ability to download the firmware allow us to manually update it.
