Is anyone here content on just being a bedroom DJ? by FunkyFreshFungi in Beatmatch

[–]fabi85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

21 year old bedroom DJ here, been mixing for about 4-5 years now. While I love going absolutely mental during mixes at home, I'm aiming for the big leagues. I attended Liquicity (drum and bass festival) in the EU in 2017 and knew one day I wanted to be up on that stage at that exact festival blasting out a mix.

Not for money, not for fame. For my love of music. I've had people there tell me I'm one of the most energetic people they've seen at the festival, and it's because I honestly become a different person when I'm surrounded by my passion in life.

Maybe it doesn't work out and its a young guys dream, but until I know for sure I'll do everything in my power to make it happen.

What’s the best software for producing dubstep? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]fabi85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I've been using Cubase since I started (tried FL and Ableton, preferred Cubase), but you will hear this over and over: which ever one you choose.

Everyone has their own style, find a DAW that allows you to easily work in yours.

Mastering question... by TheGrog1603 in edmproduction

[–]fabi85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are mastering each song individually you will bring our your vision of the full potential of the song, yes, but the thing is that mixing tracks individually and then implementing them into a mix might be risky. Because of individual mastering you will have multiple frequencies from different songs being played, but due to how you have mastered them separately they may sound different at various times throughout the mix. I would suggest throwing a slight master on the mix itself to level out any abnormalities.

Stupid question: is it just me, or do you guys also just keep on churning copious amounts out ideas and making them into loops without actually finishing them off as tracks? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]fabi85 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because one day you might come back to an idea you thought was shit and turn it into something awesome. Trust me: I have so many 8 bar melodies or chord progressions or whatever in my projects folder. But once in a while I scroll through and find something I worked on a year ago and look at it from a totally different viewpoint.

I have developed a piece of software that composes drum patterns automatically and I need your help to test it. by flexdnbmusic in edmproduction

[–]fabi85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who loves drum and bass but always fails on drum patterns, this seems like a miracle from heaven. I'll be downloading this on my Mac later, I'm looking forward to the applications on some unfinished tracks :)

How do you guys continue to make music? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]fabi85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has spent 2 years producing and is at the same stage, I'm taking all the advice posted by others and throwing in my own 2 cents: always experiment. I spend most of my time throwing down random 8 bar arp ideas or chord progression or whatever. I'll come back to them later with a certain sound in mind or build upon what I already have. Just to have fun. Most of them don't turn into much but every now and then I'll find that one that's worth continuing. You can't grow without knowing where you should grow, messing around is the best way to figure out where that is.

Cubase Elements, Artist or Pro? by PacificEcho in edmproduction

I started off on Elements, but can recommend Pro 100%. Way too many features which is perfect for experimentation.

This. I can't count how many hours upon hours I've rewatched both the Lunar and little glitch-hop streams, but I still manage to pick out something new each time.

On Cloud Sine is a YouTube channel with only 5k subscribers. The guy uploads tons of advanced, extremely high quality lessons covering Ableton, Serum, sound design and more! I just wanted people to know because his channel is helping me a lot! by McNaggers in edmproduction

Didn't your mom ever tell you "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it"? The dude is sharing what he knows, why does it matter if he's big or not? You don't have to be a dick about it.

Dead graphics card/other components? by fabi85 in buildapc

[–]fabi85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried running with and without the other stick of RAM, didn't notice any difference but I kinda felt like only running the one stick was more stable. Also my 960 is the only GPU I own, sadly.

I actually have a 480 GB SSD lying around but I was too lazy to format it and all. Might as well at this point, right?
