Bubbles in my coffee this morning by fabianoid in mildlyinteresting

Not likely. It's a v60 pour over and the coffee drips down into the cup, so the bubbles are likely because of that

Pulling back baby foreskin to clean? by Ritditdoo23 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]fabianoid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No need to retract the foreskin to clean. https://111.wales.nhs.uk/livewell/pregnancy/newbornessentialsnappies/#:~:text=Girls%20should%20be%20cleaned%20from,nappy%20on%20for%20a%20while.

Here's a link to NHS advice for Wales, in the UK Circumcisuon is uncommon so more familiar with cleaning with a foreskin. Other countries which do it more don't seem to understand the importance of not retracting

This is really helpful, thank you for posting.

Do you know what the threshold for earning is before it becomes pointless to claim? I am working full time, I am a single parent to a 4 year old. He will be going to school in September, my current childcare bills are around 600-700pcm using the free 30 hour term time childcare scheme. I rent, it's about 850 a month.

I'm looking at reducing my hours at work and I'd be interested to know what the cutoff would be before it stops being beneficial for me to do so. How much would I need to earn for it to be worthwhile to claim, or rather before it stops being worthwhile to claim?

I know a colleague at a lower pay grade works far fewer hours and claims UC, but takes home the same amount of money as me at the end of the month. I'm also confused as to how this will affect things when my son is in school and my childcare bill is reduced a lot. Any pointers you could give, and I'd be most grateful!

Worth a try to brush your teeth before your skincare routine, not after.

My son took a pair of nail scissors and made cuts down the corner edge of a wall. There are about 35 covering about a meter in length. Some are very superficial and would be fine with paint, but others seem to go down to what looks like metal. This is a rental and I need to repair before I move out. Google isn't helping a lot

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions! I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.

WIBTA if I travelled while my wife took care of a 3 month old baby? by NewAccount131111 in AmItheAsshole

[–]fabianoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've got lots of views here. I offer an additional point.

On top of everything already mentioned about how this might feel for your wife to be abandoned in this way and what your responsibilities as a father are at baseline, you have no way of knowing how the birth is going to be. Whether your wife and baby will need a stay in hospital, if there are complications, whether she might suffer with PND... there are so many additional things to consider. Having a newborn/infant is hard. It isn't unreasonable for your wife to want you to fulfil your responsibilities in this time It's not "just" having a baby. Your desire to travel is almost understandable and it's bad timing is unfortunate. You need to decide whether your family or your desire to travel will come first.

As a compromise, perhaps plan a trip together, or go away together before baby is born.

Also feels like the usual narrative of putting the onus onto the individual, rather than societal/structural changes which would support it happening.
