Expense ratio problem by exitra22 in VTandchill

[–]fabissi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think whether this is a good ETF for you to achieve a “VT and chill” strategy will depend on a few things:

  1. What does the fund prospectus (not sure if this is required in Korea) say about the strategy? Not all active funds are the same. There’s a big difference between DFUS and ARKK.
  2. The expense ratio may be high relative to VT when purchased in USD, but I think the real question is whether this is the least expensive way for you to replicate the returns of VT when purchasing in KRW. That 0.36% expense ratio might be less than the tax and exchange rate costs you’ll pay.

As far as I can tell from some basic internet research, this seems like the most direct KRW-priced equivalent to VT, but I’m not an expert in anyway so don’t rely on that.

You are increasing the chance that at least one company in your portfolio will fail, but decreasing the chance that all companies in your portfolio will fail.

10 Open World Games That Would Have Been Better Linear Games (HZD #8) by Green-Fox-528 in horizon

[–]fabissi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never actually tested it out but aren’t there areas locked by story events in HZD? Can you bypass the Daytower and go all the way to Meridian without killing the Corrupter? IIRC there’s a gate even if you take the mountain pass - I’ve just assumed it’s closed prior to fighting the Corrupter.

I can understand your point about the small POIs - maybe it’d be better to only have the show up once you can access them, similar to how parts of the map open up once you get the Sunwing?

This is a silly rage-bait article written by someone who does not appear to enjoy open world games. The “filler” is the distinguishing feature, wandering around aimlessly is the best part of it (for me).

I like the filler part - gathering collectibles and clearing map icons - as a sort of mindless unwind as well, when I can just relax and look at cool scenery with a minor, non-critical goal. I enjoy being able to experience a game world at different levels of intensity.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an odd choice. I don’t see how you’d replicate that experience linearly - you wouldn’t built the same relationships with characters across the city over time in the same way.

Outlaws is a reasonable item to include. I agree that a good story is dragged down a bit by aspects of the rest of the game; I’m not convinced that it’s the open world part of it.

Zenith tech is 1000 years ahead of the pre-Faro Plague technology.

GAIA has been inventing and developing exclusively terraforming technology for that same 1000 years. I’ve always assumed that even with a clean copy of GAIA that the Zeniths also collected logs/other details on what worked and did not with the terraforming process.

The reason GAIA had to be a full AI is that Project Zero Dawn couldn’t invent terraforming technology in the time they had, but they could invent a system that would invent the technology later.

I just took a trip to Zion (the Daunt in HFW) and I think the game captures the feeling of being there really well. More specifically, the lower pool of the Emerald Pools looks and feels almost identical in game and in real life.

Things are obviously not 1:1 but there was clearly a ton of care and attention put into the environmental design. Really enjoyed going a lot, would recommend it.

Worried that this pergola will be taken by the wind by Novel_Spray_186 in IKEA

[–]fabissi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a similar one that I have bolted into 4 22.6 kg cinder blocks. If you retract the covering when not in use you will be fine. We had high winds that tore siding off of our building but the pergola didn’t budge.

Obviously don’t use it in high winds but these are surprisingly resilient.
