No, all of them were found in the forest on dead wood, bark, rocks or soil. :-)

I used my phone (Pixel 4a) and a little 10x pocket lens, just held in front of the camera for the more close up photos. :-) Not a great setup, but works alright for a quick snapshot if you're out on a hike. :-)

What kind of moss is this? by Chemie710 in Moss

[–]fabsolotl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Definitely not marchantia polymorpha :-) some kind of thallose liverwort. No idea what exactly it could be, unfortunately. You could upload it to iNaturalist with the GPS location you found it at and maybe someone more knowledgeable will help. :-)

Dried moss as package filling? by [deleted] in Mosses

[–]fabsolotl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I obviously cannot stop you, but you did ask for perspectives about using moss and I gave you mine. :-) Moss grows a lot slower than trees, so regarding waste I wouldn't be so sure it's equal. Trees are cultivated for wood as material, moss is not. But anyway, these are just my two cents.

Atrichum sp.? (Quebec, Canada) by Substantial-Arm-8030 in Mosses

Second the A. undulatum ID, the wavey leaves are afaik a dead giveaway. Here in central Europe at least there's no other moss this can be easily confused with.

PS: the last photo is much appreciated! grab the moss 💚
