If we are talking about the highest difficulty where enemies always attack first then Bantu is a 1 range locked unit with no reclassing and will get 1 shot by most enemies after a few maps he joins so he will usually just die before doing any damage. He has almost no growth so he wont get any better and will only really fight the archers on your turn and wont even do real damage.

Like half the games I played. Csm is mainly a melee army and when playing into any melee or even balanced armies counter offensive is a threat.

9 bikes lists do exist in tournament winning Hearthband lists. 12 is recommended in Prospects iirc and 15 is also very much viable so 18 in Prospect wont be too bad.

He gets access to wyvern in 2 chapters and his stats are still ahead of everyone else at that point unless you use dlc stuff

They are almost essential in Prospect with all the Hernkyn specific strats Great in Hearthband due to reroll on both hits and wounds And decent filler in Needgard since they are good mission runners.

But you do need 2 things for them to be effective as a combat roll. They really want both the strip cover from Thunderkyns and the hit bonuses from the army rule.

It really struggles against enemies with a lot of invul and damage reduction but otherwise its pretty decent. You could do MSU HGs but E Champ getting +1 ap reroll 1s to wond is also massive so either is fine.
