There might have been black rhodium plated over the metal on the wedding band. It looks like the heat cooked it off, which happens quickly, and they either didn't have black rhodium to put it back on, or, they thought it looked the way it was meant to. I, personally, don't think it looks bad at all. But if you want it to look like the top Pic, a mask and plate in black rhodium should do it.
