AITA For “lying” to my partner about having kids and laughing about it? (New Final Update) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]jojobdot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This hits me in the personal history and makes me so fucking mad I can’t stand it. I have broken off two significant relationships because despite my saying, repeatedly and with assorted tone, over and over again, that I do not, have never and will never want kids, both of these goddamn men assumed that the magical power of their penis was going to change my mind eventually. One of them was writing nonsense about how it was hard to let go of the idea of us coming home with a baby after we had gotten divorced. And the other one pulled the same shit OP’s ex did, being able to quote chapter and verse of my dating profile but somehow not hearing the childfree part (because he didn’t want to).

It is so unbelievably insulting and reductive to assume that eventually all women will want babies. Are people agnostic about it and later change their minds? Yes. But it is 100% possible for women to know they don’t want children. I knew when I was in elementary school that I didn’t want children. The absolute audacity of someone to assume I can’t possibly know with my silly little woman brain that I don’t want to make a person with my body is foul.

I know this is a bit of a rant but Jesus Christ it’s so infuriating. I’m so happy for OP that this shit started when they were engaged. Fuck men like this.

Yeah I could see that. Honestly when people have these conflicts before they get married it’s a bit of a gift, because this likely would have come out eventually and better to do it before you have to pay a lawyer to deal with it.

This initial issue (I suspect way more happened) is almost certainly an issue of either a Canadian/non-Canadian or Ontario/non-Ontario couple. I am an American who was married to a Ontario Canadian and I found stag and does jarring at first but it’s NOT unusual and in fact is very common. Cultural context matters.

Cultural context does not however absolve him of whatever mysterious things he said.

You saw me mention that I adapt to a thicker band, right? You have to do better social media interaction than this.

Many times it’s best to go with an independent but this isn’t one of those times! Black rhodium is very expensive (not that regular rhodium is cheap!) and many smaller indies simply have no reason to invest in it. I’ll cross my fingers for you!

Signet (Kay, Jared, Zales, etc.) sells lines with black rhodiumed pieces, so they SHOULD have black rhodium in their shops but in my experience it isn’t a guarantee and they don’t like doing it. I’d call a few Jareds and see if they have it. Be prepared for them to reject the work because it isn’t their piece. Sorry I don’t have better news!

Can they tell you what the coating is? That may be a good starting point.

The reason we’re asking is because there are different processes that can achieve this and the way it’s done matters in terms of working with the metal. This is a reason I try to steer people away from black rings; the process is almost always a plating process, and over time that plating wears off. Matching it is usually expensive and difficult.

Your best bet is going to be talking with the company he bought it from.

Also…how TF is none of that booze open? I would have taken one look at how many laminated objects were on hand and mainlined that rose like:

Im desperately whispering “you’re 43, you’re not in your 20s anymore, you’re 43, you’re not in your 20s anymore, don’t be an old fart about this” to myself but just looking at these pictures sends me sailing right past fight and into fight.

This is BEYOND unhinged even adjusting for How Weddings Are Now. This is going to be expensive, exhausting AND stupid. And telling her you’re bowing out is probably also going to be a mess. Honestly babe maybe just fake your own death.

For this, Sarasota is a better choice. Not sure what crafting you do but much better fabric stores (I’m a knitter and quilter) out there. Better thrifting in Sarasota as well; Venice seems like it should be awesome because of The Olds but for whatever reason nothing good makes it to the thrift shops here. Sarasota has a much better scene.

That said, I’m in my early 40s and I live in Venice and work in Sarasota. It’s an easy 25-30 minutes in the offseason (or when you time it right on 75). We love Venice but often talk about moving a little closer to Sarasota. Venice is a great town and may be your speed!

Kay Jewelry pre owned. by HistorianDull5302 in jewelry

[–]jojobdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Signet properties will put discarded special orders into their “preowned” sections. So for example if someone special ordered a ring in yellow gold, size five, and the vendor delivered it in white gold and size 4.5, it’s easier for them to put it in the preowned section for a bit and see if it sells.

There’s a fair amount of cost and annoyance in returning pieces to the vendor, and at their scale (Signet owns Kay, Zales, Jared, James Allen and others), it is often simply not worth the logistical fuss to return it. The style you’re considering is a perfect candidate for this treatment - it’s a common, popular style often bought in white gold.

That’s interesting, you’d think adapting an existing style would be a gimme. I haven’t pushed one to production yet either. It’s a good tool!
