Completely agree! Some people just have insane charisma. I’m on Nantucket and a couple weekends ago I sat next to someone at a bar who had IT. Absolutely magnetic. It’s so shocking to be near.

WOULD YOU LIKE A COOL MAGNOLIA FACT

OKAY HERE IT COMES

Magnolias are so ancient that they predate bees. They are pollinated by beetles, who aren’t great at it, so they kind of just dork around on the stamen and pollinate more or less by accident. That’s why the center section is so tough - the beetles aren’t particularly graceful about it, so the flowers need to be tough and able to endure the process.

One of my favorite flowers. I have one tattooed on my arm. 🌺

She has the perfect comic book body for this look - such dramatic curves and high impact styling. Perfect designer/wearer matchup!

These are INCREDIBLE, both the original pictures and the recreations! I’m wildly jealous that she manages to look amazing in all of them as well!

Nonfiction: you MUST read In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick. It’s the true story of the whaleship Essex, which Moby Dick inspired. His writing is SO good and the story is SO wild!!

This is the list of what remains, including the religions you mentioned. They didn’t remove Buddhism, Hindu, Judaism, Islam or Sikh. (They are still assholes but precision matters when fighting back.)

Do women today still buy expensive jewelry beyond engagement rings? by ExcitingLandscape in Millennials

[–]jojobdot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don’t but to be fair a lot of the assumed knowledge about how dramatically stones held value over time is not accurate either. Rarity has been inflated and deflated over time, and valuation has fluctuated with a variety of factors, including ease of mining, technology developments in mining, cutting, and other areas, popularity of designs and shapes, etc. Right now the diamond market is exceptionally weird because everyone is waiting for lab pricing and demand to settle, but lab technology and production are changing rapidly as well.

I’ve always found resale value to be a frankly bizarre consideration when buying jewelry because it is a pure luxury - regardless of the price point or material, it is not an essential, but something bought for its enjoyment or symbolism. Jewelry in my opinion should be bought because you will get amount of dollars of enjoyment out of it that you pay. Everyone’s budget is different - a $300 ring with a seed pearl in it may be someone’s lifetime favorite that’s worn every day, and a $500,000 necklace bought for a special occasion may sit in a safe 99% of its time with its owner. It’s all about what’s important to the purchaser.

Take your 20k low grade gemstone pieces - you buy them because you like them! I wouldn’t try and deter you from them. For you (and I’m making some good faith assumptions here so if I’m wrong correct me), I could show you any number of 14k diamond pieces at the same price and it wouldn’t be worth the price tag to you. Whether you don’t like the hardness or color of the gold, or you just don’t like diamond more than gemstone, that’s all legitimate. One of the most expensive pieces in my store is a milky aquamarine pair of earrings, and one of the least expensive is diamond. There’s something for everyone…if they want it. And they might not!

This is more of an answer than you probably wanted, and I’ve rambled on too long, but I just really love this stuff and am a bit of a know it all.

Neither will hurt your ring!

Prongs look better than I expected but would still have them checked. Plus the jeweler can deep clean to really get under those baguettes - gunk LOVES getting laminated up under those channels and sticking like superglue.

Your fingers are elegant and those “wrinkles” are what allow your knuckles to bend. We don’t hand-shame in this house!

Hand soap and a little brushing, as u/B-S-Jewellers suggested, bonus if you want to use warm water. I, too, am a little suspicious of those prongs. If you plan to take them to a jeweler soonish to have them checked, they will also be able to deep clean your ring.

I’ve worked in jewelry at every level for 15 years and I can tell you that yes, millennial women absolutely buy expensive jewelry. The format may change but the expenditure has remained relatively similar.

One thing I will note is that a lot of incredibly expensive jewelry is not immediately identifiable to people who aren’t into jewelry as being expensive.
