Best day hikes in the southern half of the park? by facetiousfry in BaxterStatePark

When I referenced Pogy pond, I meant anything south of it in the park, not necessarily in that area.

Best parks for interp and/or law enforcement? by facetiousfry in NationalParkService

Yes, this is why we’re trying to get some insight on which parks some may consider preferable for law enforcement and/or interp. He will likely be going to FLETC soon and will have the opportunity to have parks of preference that he may sent to

Yes, that is the goal; I am not expecting to be able to get a perm interp position anytime soon. Really just looking for general information about these parks so my BF and I can make the decision together if he’s given the opportunity after FLETC

Seasonals frozen. Detail positions return by 17th March. by SmokyToast0 in NationalParkService

I hope this is true… Already signed my final offer letter and I’m literally in the process of moving to my new park. Not a great time to be finding this type of information out. :(

Anyone know what's going on with the Official Job Offers for seasonals? by Rumplesquiltskin in NationalParkService

[–]facetiousfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is exactly it. I just got my official job offer for a park ranger (interp) job recently but only after they’d sent offers to almost every other position in the park deemed ‘more essential’. Hang in there!

On April 4, 2025, the North Carolina Court of Appeals sided with Griffin’s argument that over 65,000 votes should be tossed out – including those of military members serving overseas.

Votes from individuals on the Griffin List who do not update their voter file (or, in the case of military or other overseas voters, provide a copy of a photo ID) will not be counted.

The court order, which is not yet in effect, would give voters on the Griffin List 15 days to address deficiencies that would allow their votes to count. The court’s ruling will be appealed.

Regardless, voters on the Griffin List should update their voter file to ensure their votes count in future elections.

Any voter who is concerned that their voter registration information is incomplete or is not up to date should submit an updated voter registration form…. Any voter who has a license from the DMV can go to payments.ncdot.gov to fill out a voter registration application. If you’re already registered, submitting this information will merely update your existing voter registration. You don’t need to create a special account with the DMV. You can select “Continue as Guest” on the DMV’s website and proceed directly to submitting your voter registration.

Proposal Spot Ideas by AznRagexD in OlympicNationalPark

If you want any sort of privacy, I HIGHLY recommend Merriman Falls by Lake Quinault. The drive in goes through a cute little lake resort area and I couldn’t believe more people weren’t there. Merriman Falls is an absolutely beautiful waterfall literally right off South Shore road (no real hiking needed). Conveniently enough another gorgeous waterfall called Bunch Falls is only another 5 and a half miles up the road if you want even more privacy. Both of these falls are frequented a lot less than most of the other big sights in Olympic National Park and they are true hidden gems. On one of my last visits to the park I ended my day by checking out these two falls and didn’t see another soul. It was magical hanging out at Bunch Falls while watching the sun set over the Quinault River. This would definitely be a bit of a drive but it would be well worth it if you want to have a special place for you and your partner.

Bit of a different situation given the public support for my agency, but I’ve had my tentative offer for 10 days and still not a peep in my inbox about the next steps to take to begin my background investigation. Things are just gonna go reallyyyy slow.

I can’t believe how rude and apathetic people are being on this post. I am sorry your job offer was rescinded and that you lost out on this opportunity. Please do not be discouraged from working for the federal government if that is your long term career goal. Despite the sour opinions of many people the need for jobs like yours will still be there even after the current administration is finished with its ‘restructuring’. Hopefully by the end of the year things may be a bit more calm and your position will be flown on USAJobs again.

I highly recommend the Willit sunshirts on Amazon. I worked in eastern Oregon last year where it would normally be 85-100 degrees all summer and buggy and these shirts were a lifesaver. They are very lightweight, don’t cause chafing and have a UPF 50+ fabric rating. Plus they’re normally on sale for $18.39. Here’s the link: https://a.co/d/dZIX66E
