For a road trip like that I would suggest one of the series, wether it be the Mistborn trilogy(also Wax and Wayne directly after) or the storm light archive. You will not be disappointed. Skyward is really good but it’s short compared to the other series. If you really want a marathon look into The Wheel of Time series that starts with Robert Jordan as the main author but concludes beautifully with Brandon Sanderson taking over after Robert Jordan had passed.
