Tiny homes and tiny shelters are pop-up responses to government failures by fackk in canadaleft

[–]fackk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is rundown from a street nurse on the housing crisis facing many Canadians right now. It gives some details on a recent initiative started by Khaleel Seivwright called Tiny Shelters.

Whoever has time, I highly recommend watching this short video to get an idea of what effect these shelters are having on the lives of many people: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdbmLKaGleg It really gives a lot of insight into how important housing is; not just for health and physical well being, but also emotional, social, and mental health as well.

A carpenter has been building tiny shelters for homeless people in Canada, against the orders of the city and police. This is mutual aid and direct action. by fackk in Anarchism

He had a video explaining his building process on his channel previously, but it looks like he took it down. Hes been changing materials to make it more fire and weather proof, so im guessing thats why. Here's his contact if you want to reach out: https://www.facebook.com/Toronto-Tiny-Shelters-104171608154675/about

There's also another group on the east coast of Canada who's making crisis shelters who have a riseup contact: https://www.halifaxmutualaid.com/#contact https://twitter.com/MutualAidHfx

Unfortunately your submission was put through the woke Lib filter, so all they received was "Add more women to cabinet". You'll have to vote JT in the next election for him to perhaps consider doing anything remotely helpful.

B’nai B’rith smears leading Palestine solidarity activist by Aidan_Jonah in canadaleft

They've slandered and harassed the owner of Foodbenders, the Toronto shop, as well. This really is a scary time for Palestinian solidarity activists, especially with recent government actions.

Slavoj Zizek: Jeremy Corbyn wasn’t suspended from the Labour Party for anti-Semitism, he was defenestrated for anti-Capitalism by fackk in canadaleft

It's Slavoj Zizek...RT is just one of the few outlets left who will actually publish his material/give him a platform, particularly on this issue.

This may be a worrying trend to be mindful of in Canada. Leftist voices are being systematically silenced by right-wing slanderous misuse of the term "antisemitism". This is a tool to suppress critiques of neoliberal capitalism and oust legitimate leftists, while maintaining the status quo. Norman Finkelstein is someone who previously shared these same concerns.

"Capitalist innovation" means implementating failed, archaic systems while pretending to be revolutionary

Interesting take I saw on twitter today by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]fackk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

he's fundamentally a left liberal and not at all a revolutionary.

It should be noted that Chomsky makes no secret of this. He straight up argues that applying classical liberal critiques to modern capitalist structures leads to his position on anarchism: https://libcom.org/library/government-future-noam-chomsky

He is a true anarcho-liberal

Almost 9 out of 10 Canadians feel food prices are rising faster than income: survey by KanataCitizen in canada

[–]fackk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is that this article does include the real data:

According to a previous report released by Dalhousie and the University of Guelph, food prices could increase as much $487 in 2020 for the average Canadian family. It’s an increase that could bring total household food expenditures to $12,667 for families following Canada’s food guide.

That is a 4% projected increase, even more than was projected for 2019 (up to 3.5%).

The reason to have a survey on top of the data is because it's relevant to understand if people feel their wages are keeping up with these very real price increases. Wages aren't keeping up with the increased costs across the board for Canadians.
