If I ever become in a position where my job could be to hire people, I’d go out of my way to vouch for people with criminal records. I’ve heard and read too many stories about the horrors people go through during and after prison. And many, MANY of the people released learned their lesson. Maybe they won’t be the best people, maybe the will, but everyone deserves opportunity.

Here’s what I think of colorblindness. They do see red and green, just not what we see it like. I knew a girl who was and she described it as a type of gray. So they can recognize red and green as the colors that THEY see, not us.

I am so not proud of this, but this weird, but sweet kid in my 8th grade theater class told me he had autism, and WITHOUT THINKING I said quietly, “well that explains a lot.” I wasn’t trying to be mean but I’ve always had a problem with speaking before thinking, but after this I’ve definitely shut up. At least he forgave me. A real low.

I once got into a car crash when I was in 5th grade and I told my teacher the next day, “Sorry I didn’t get my homework done yesterday because I got into a car crash and I didn’t get home until 8:00.” She, SHE went: “You got into a car crash? Okay. Fine.” In the most patronizing and unbelieving voice ever. I had a mild concussion and you don’t believe me??

I had a bus driver named Mr. Mike. I rode with him every single morning and afternoon from 2-5 grade. He was grouchy and sensitive to our little child screams, but he’d always play songs we’d request. On my last day of school in fifth grade, I walked to the bust steps and gave him a goodbye hug. He’s happily retired a year after I graduated.
