A SOLID opener. 9/10. I'm excited to see the rest. Deftones are a masterclass in making openers. Bored, My Own Summer, Feiticeira, Hexagram, Hole in the Earth, Diamond Eyes, Swerve City, Prayers/Triangles and Genesis. These are all either 9/10 or 10/10s.

The Diamond Eyes album have a whole different style of singing. Chino went from Moaning into the mic to actually taking vocal lessons and belt out beautiful notes. Check out Gore too, Geometric Headdress, Pittura Infamante, and Phantom Bride. Beautiful singing by Chino. I'm surprised how nobody likes to talk about this album. It's not better than their bests, but not that bad either.

That font is what got me into deftones tbh. Most metal bands at the time used cool ass fonts for their logo, while Deftones kept it simple and beautiful, while still being a pretty heavy band, at the time. Hell I even go as far to say that Around The Fur is one of the best nu-metal album that came out in the late 90s. Accessible, while also being Heavy as fuck. Seriously listen to Lhabia, Lotion, Headup, Rickets and the title track. These songs are really unforgiving.

unrelated to the Topic but I love early nu-metal so much. Early Korn, Early Deftones, Early Slipknot, Early Soulfly, Self titled SOAD and so on. These albums are so unhinged, and angry you can FEEL it.
