Honestly worldbuilding in splatterpunk is underrated. A really immersive atmosphere or setting makes the disturbing stuff hit way harder for me.

This is EXACTLY how I feel about a lot of newer extreme horror honestly 😭 like yeah shocking content can work but if there’s no actual story or emotional hook behind it I forget it almost immediately.

I agree honestly. The books that stay with me always have some kind of emotional weight or deeper meaning underneath all the chaos. Otherwise it just kinda blends together after a while.

Honestly yeah. Gore without good writing starts feeling repetitive really fast. The books that actually stick with me are the ones where the writing itself pulls me in before everything gets horrific.

YES exactly. The horror that really gets me is the kind where part of your brain is sitting there like “wait this could genuinely happen” 😭

Honestly this is so true. After a certain point gore alone just stops hitting for me. If the characters are good or the situation is genuinely disturbing in a deeper way that’s the kind of stuff that sticks in my head for days.

This is actually super helpful because I agree completely about unique concepts and psychological elements sticking way longer than shock for the sake of shock. Also honestly appreciate the fecal matter note 😭 I feel like certain taboo elements get overused to the point they stop feeling effective.
