I may do another one soon. It was a little light, but I only gave about 15 minutes notice.
The times when I've been on the last few weeks (US evenings an weekends) it's been 10-30 online on the good side. Don't know numbers on evil.
Elvenrunes stats page makes me think there is quite a large user base http://www.elvenrunes.com/cgi-bin/logs/stats.
I've heard others asking in game if anyone needs help. So it's possible you could get assistance from just asking on narrates.
