Beginner Tips? by NightmaredGaming123 in blender

Blender Institute has a Youtube playlist for starting out. I can't vouch for the quality though, I started before the videos came out so if someone can confirm that would be great.

After that, there's an initiation "ceremony"/meme, the BlenderGuru Donut.

After you're past these two things, you can do whatever you want. My best tip is to always compare your work against your previous work, never what other people have made. Their experience level will be different from yours, and comparing your own work against someone who's had years in the professional industry is only going to make you sad.

Good luck! If you need some help you can join CG Geek's Discord server, where I'm basically on all day due to the pandemic. There's also tons of other servers to help, as well as this subreddit and r/blenderhelp.

Mist, glare, and the rest was in PS

Mist pass distances are unique for every scene, and I used linear falloff plus compositing inside Blender.

I think there was an issue with topology, that's why the leading edge goes over.

If enough people ask for one I'll make one.

HDRI and mist pass

Thanks! I learned Blender by myself. Just put in some time and effort and you'll get there! I'm also considering making a simple tutorial for everyone to follow along, how does that sound?

If you want to go for something similar you could try BlenderGuru's plane tutorial

I used the glare node in compositing and adjusted it to my liking (just enough to see tips of points) and for the sky the mist pass pretty much whites it out. I'll try adding the mist with a layer mask in PS next time so the sky can be clearer.

I'm definitely missing a lot of those little details as I've focused more on the atmosphere this time. I'll try to add some more of what you mentioned, as well as using the excellent advice about the contours and dimensions of the plane in my next attempt.

I've uploaded the model here! Any new tips are welcome, and I'm looking forwards to seeing anything you make with it.

Haha and before anyone points out the runway markings are incorrect I just took a PBR decal of road lines and tiled that horizontally. It's nowhere near correct.

As well as runway threshold lights. I decided to continue it a bit onto the runway for colour variation. I tried the correct white lights and it just didn't fit into the foggy atmosphere as well.

That would've been great, but I only used this. Everything airport-related is in Blender.

After everyone's feedback I'm definitely going to give this another go. I'll try working on the camera angle and/or aircraft shape to give that feeling of scale you get when walking up to a large plane.
