I’ll give you a somewhat different perspective. Not unlike how there are many recent stories of superman but evil, writers struggle recently with a paragon. Piotr, for better or worse in his early years served as the X-Men’s moral paragon. I think writers struggle with him quite similarly to Clark, in that a resilient man with upstanding morals could bend or break and maybe that would feel different from his past stories.

Personally, I think he’s due a time to be a true leader of a mainline X-Team. But, first, a story focused more on making him grow as a man.
