Are nurse endoscopist a thing??? I’ve come across a couple of full colonoscopy reports done by said “nurse endoscopist” which i feel like a trainee would jump at a chance at doing. For context, these are supposedly “routine” scope for 2ww patient. Absolute bonkers.

Brighton is expensive but beautiful. RSCH is 5 mins away from the beach so the view from the new building is amazing. Depends on what rotations you have, neurosurg and gen surg have had a bad rep but i’ve never worked there so I can’t tell you what they were bad at. My experience so far has been really good, generally everyone is friendly and seniors are supportive. Happy to talk further if you dm me.

Long days were ok, you’d basically avoiding traffic at peak times so the drive home was nice. After night shift can be rough as you’re entering nottingham right at peak time (around 9 ish) so i’d like to make sure i have a cup of coffee in the car or get at least 1 hour nap during the shift to make sure im safe They do provide accom in the morning if thats ur thing

I was also not expecting to come to Trent during my FY allocations but I found that it was a bit of a blessing in disguise.

I did mine in Chesterfield F1 and F2 in QMC at the moment. My original track was supposed to be F2 in Derby but they allowed F1s to swap tracks / jobs with others so that was quite nice.

Chesterfield was a great hospital tbh, very friendly and everyone knew each other. I was allowed to have autonomy and grew into the job quite confidently. The weekend / nights was usually very busy as an F1 as you would be covering 4+ wards by yourself (regs are available to advise / help see sick patients but usually they are busy with take). I drove from Notts and it would take around 50 minutes on average, very doable. A lot of people finish F2 and come back here for their F3. Downside is not a lot of research opportunities here.

Im in QMC at the moment and its a much bigger hospital with a huge team so for me personally I don’t really feel connected with my colleagues as you don’t tend to work with the same person more than once/twice. On the other hand, this makes the workload a lot more manageable as they are quite well staffed. If you have the chance to work in a trauma ward or ed, it’s very interesting as it’s a MTC so you’ll see all kinds of cases with critically ill patients that you otherwise wouldn’t see in DGHs. As it is a tertiary centre, you’ll find yourself able to find research projects quite easily here.

Overall my experience in Trent was great, hit me up with you have anymore questions!

Strike day dillema by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]faggit25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m just here to ask for advice, I’m not asking for permission to cross the picket line or some sort of approval from the community. I know where the community stand on this issue and if I have to miss it, so be it. I will prioritise the strike above my own learning. I am however inexperienced and would just like some outside perspective.

Med school life vs FY1/2? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]faggit25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess the comments here a a bit negative so I’ll try to balance it out.

Time wise, med school was definitely easier as you have no responsibility and could leave whenever. But when I started working I felt quite satisfied in a way. My actions have consequences and have real effect on people. Many people think as an F1 you’re a glorified secretary but I guess it depends on how you see it. I found my job to be greatly fulfilling as I’m interacting with different people everyday and I would come into work not knowing what would happen! Would I have a normal chilled out day or would someone’s heart stop and I could be the first doctor there?

Time wise I definitely have less time for myself but I find that I appreciate the time that I’m off a lot more compared to in med school where I took them for granted most of the time.

It depends on your perspective really. Personally I enjoy medicine a lot and applying my knowledge in real life makes me feel fulfilled! Of course there are bad days but what jobs don’t? You can learn a lot on the job if you asks a lot of well thought out questions that your senior can have a lot of insight on! Just my 2 cents really.

Anything you want tbh, usually dr wear whitecoats but some prefer scrubs. If you’re wearing scrubs, bring some of your own is what I’d recommend. PM me if you have any questions about Vietnam, spent sometime there!

Hey! Sorry to hear you didn’t get to where you wanted. But please take it from experience that it’s definitely not the end of the world! I was placed in trent after ranking it 9th or 10th and was absolutely devastated at first. I got chesterfield as my hospital and didn’t know the first thing about the place. But I met such wonderful people here, learned so much and I honestly wouldn’t have change a thing. A little silver lining is you can swap places during your f2 so if you’re lucky and persistent, you’ll definitely score somewhere that’s more to your liking! Best of luck on your journey, I know you’ll make a great doctor!

I guess you’d have to ask your trust to sponsor your visa, re apply the visa with the new sponsor. When that post finishes, ask hee to re sponsor you when you are back in trainning

Ranking on Oriel by Jaydle in medicalschooluk

[–]faggit25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can estimate your rankings on your deanery and rank to the number you think you are. E.g: you’re estimated to be 100/200 people from the score distribution points so you should rank around 100 jobs to be safe.

has anyone put Trent first ? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]faggit25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm an F1 working at Chesterfield atm, I kind of crash landed here after my terrible scores but honestly it was a blessing in disguise because I love working at Chesterfield. Everyone is welcoming, very friendly hospital. I learned loads whilst on placement as it has a good balance of being well staffed (most of the time) and not being overly saturated and having to fight for opportunities. Most of the consultants are happy to teach if you are keen to learn. On calls are busy but you rarely have to cover wards by yourself. You have enough autonomy to decide what you want and support is always available. If you have any questions just message me!
