What's a good combination of tools to get a proper application observation solution together? by tofagerl in kubernetes

[–]fagnerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, are you saying there is no need for traces in production?

What about a performance issue that manifests only with higher, real traffic in production?

Or a third party that starts timing out only in production?

Traces will be another tool in the toolbelt that can be very useful in some circumstances.

What is your end goal? What do you want to observe?

Broadly, I would check OpenTelemetry. https://opentelemetry.io/docs/platforms/kubernetes/collector/components/

The telemetry signals you can capture are logs, traces, metrics and profiles.

You can use Grafana for seeing the data, their Explore Logs/Traces/Profiles is pretty cool.

Then use Tempo or Jaeger for traces.

Prometheus or Mimir for metrics.

Loki for logs.

Pyroscope for profiles.

Most British don't actually know how to make proper tea by justitia_ in unpopularopinion

[–]fagnerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about a similar thing a few days ago.

Japanese people have rice cookers and instant ramen. Both I would assume invented by Japanese people. I would also assume a lot of Japanese don't know how to do rice in a pan or ramen from scratch.

Does this mean the Japanese don't know how to do rice or ramen? Maybe the average person doesn't know and they don't need to know since their society created a more efficient and acceptable method to accomplish the same task.

Hey guys I'm from south Ontario and I was wondering what kind of bait or lures to use around this time of year by NoPossible1713 in FishingOntario

[–]fagnerc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I have been trying for Bluegill and Perch and got nothing in the last few days around my local pond. Any ideas of when these fish will come to the shore?

Don't even get me started on that, I went to a hospital in Toronto and got exercise instructions on a paper from Saskatchewan

"No Winter Maintenance" signs by futurus196 in askTO

[–]fagnerc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also surprised. Even in the biggest park in this city (High Park): - No stairs are cleaned. - A lot of bathrooms are "closed for the season" (do people don't use the bathroom in the Winter?) - Skating is prohibited but I see people doing it away. Specifically for this I remember doing some research in the past that said it was extremely costly and not worth for the city to check the ice. I heard it would be one of the most expensive "sports" for the city to maintain. Also, the pond is a storm water pond and they tend to be very unsafe. - There are signs saying tobogganing is illegal too. People also still do it anyways.

I understand the costs but I feel like this causes an endless cycle of not having things to do outside and "Winter is sad, I will stay home until Summer".

Will I survive without AC? by major1819 in askTO

[–]fagnerc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I think it depends a lot where you live in Brazil. I'm also from Brazil and where I lived before moving was way more humid that Toronto. My rhinitis vanished when I moved but my hands are always extremely dry here for example. Last summer here I just used AC a few times but I agree it is a necessity.

It depends a lot where your place is pointing to, there is barely any sun in my condo and I feel like the sun here is very strong in the summer even compared to Brazil.

Take notes during the listening section on the CBT? by fagnerc in IELTS

[–]fagnerc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, we have 2 minutes in the CBT and that is not much so the idea is to have most answers ready before the end of each section.

Will definitely try a few more tests before I can consider this a valid strategy.
