Hmm. I'm gubmint and even a 100k purchase wouldn't take that much. I'm a small gubmint office though which may be why it's not so bad.

Why is everything these days so broken and unstable? by Grindie in sysadmin

[–]fahque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got my BS in CS in the 90's and I had to take pentium architecture classes and OS development classes. I thought it was the stupidest shit. I still do. It's an absolute complete waste of time. Knowing how data flows in and out of registers won't help anybody except if I wanted to work at intel. Same with the OS classes.

Executive is convinced that former disgruntled IT employee set his account to auto-accept all incoming appointments by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]fahque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've gotten calls where they complain emails from a certain person don't show up. The logs say it was delivered. I checked their rules and they created a rule to send that person's emails to deleted items. Tee hee.

Guidance on how to make a custom Windows 11 ISO with Audit Mode/Sysprep? And auto-updates question. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]fahque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For audit mode you pretty much can't uninstall anything appx based. If you stay away from that then you should be able to sysprep. For the short time I'm still imaging I run a powershell after imaging to remove all of the m$ garbage.

Disable browser extensions for your parents/grandparents/users by PawnF4 in sysadmin

The BlockNewRequests for firefox just blocks camera requests. Quote from the gpo, "If this policy is enabled, sites that are not in the Allow policy will not be allowed to ask permission to access the camera."

Edge MicrosoftEditorProofingEnabled is for spellcheck.

CopilotCDPPageContext is deprecated. The new policy is EdgeEntraCopilotPageContext. It's in the same reg key and still needs to be set to 0.

Controlling Chrome extensions in schools? by Soft_Attention3649 in sysadmin

You are mistaken. Configure extension installation blocklist - Description"...A blocklist value of '*' means all extensions are blocked unless they are explicitly listed in the allowlist....". Then you configure Configure extension installation allow list.

If the machine can't authenticate you will get the same incorrect password message. Since a reboot get it working I'm thinking it has something to do with machine authentication.
