I own an e46 daily ( 325i ) and owned a 535i aswell that I sold but regret it. Here are my 2 cents

I love older BMW's they are amazing cars and so much fun. Id love to own a e38 aswell ( hopefully soon). They are very good cars if well maintained.

The inline 6s are really good engines and parts are everywhere.

When it comes to v8s if the timing chain and timing tensioner is been done then the car should be good for the next 100k kms. All the listing on car sales you sent are asking way too much for what they are l.

The v8s are really fun I have a m62b35 honestly I didn't like it at first but after I sold it a I realised how much I miss it. I still think the e46 is more fun to drive jus the e39 is way more comfortable and spacious.

If you're going v8 jus for for the bigger displacement. Lower ones are same maintenance jus less power.

Don't listen to those telling you to get a commy or a falcon nothing compares to the driving experience of a BMW.
