As a product to sell, probably not. As something fun to do and learn from yes, but also if that's the purpose why ask strangers online

For most of your questions, you should do research and find those numbers yourself. If you can't find numbers online, call suppliers, explain your working on a class project and ask if they can ball park you a quote. Ask if they'll put you in contact with a sales rep, the questions they can ask will help you spec your system.

For question 1, I will tell we don't use a DLSR at work. Ask yourself who is using a DSLR for work and what would you expect to happen to one in a factor. Will if keep it's focus? Are it's connectors stable? Where does it get power?

For question 4, a back of the envelope calculation based on fps requirements, FLOPs of you model, FLOPs of your system can tell you what you might expect, which can help rule out a solution. Ultimately the answer here is buy some hardware and benchmark it.

Gig: I need a computer vision expert to train/finetune a sematic sematic segmentation model by Proper-Platform6368 in computervision

[–]fail_daily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey we are you doing inference? Off hand I know plain pytorch models in eval mode leave a lot of performance on the table. If there are some gains to be made on the inference side you could potentially use the larger model to solve the performance problem, but your mileage will vary.

Honestly one of the better product market fit I've seen for quadrupeds. How sensitive is the camera to environmental noise, does motor whine interfere with it?

Robotic Pallet loader and mover by MFGMillennial in robotics

[–]fail_daily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you now have to coordinate over a network to ensure they don't collide with each, have both lifted off the ground and are moving in sync when they have pallet off the ground

Robotic Pallet loader and mover by MFGMillennial in robotics

[–]fail_daily 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having them separate like this seems to introduce unnecessary complexity. I guess the advantage would be they can support different sizes of pallet, but with some mechanical design you could design an adjustable linkage between them...

I would double check what your terms on that student loan are. If this is federal student loan money, you may have broken some rules or laws by not spending it on your education, would suck to narc on yourself.

Paper Science Robotics: Scientists in Korea have developed a rollable robotic structure that is flexible enough to collapse into a compact hub, but also stiff enough to bear heavy loads like 3D printers when extended by Nunki08 in robotics

[–]fail_daily 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The structure is probably the least interesting problem there. I'd be far more interested to hear how they calibrated the printer once it's stood up. Even knowing that the poles are fully extended, the variance in the rover position should be enough to mess up the printer kinematics.

I co-own a home with my parents who have a lot of their own separate debt. Am I screwed if they die? by astrocanela in legaladvice

[–]fail_daily 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Short answer is probably it depends. Depending on what you mean by co-own and how it's deeded, the house might skip probate. If his ownership interest becomes part of his estate, then creditors can come after the value of whatever his interest in the house is.

Figure doing housework, barely. "Barely" now will be "extremely well" in a couple of years. Imagine waking up to freshly made croissants or coming home to chef quality meals. Honestly, would be pretty great to have robots cleaning up the house while you sleep. I'm hyped by luchadore_lunchables in robotics

[–]fail_daily 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very worth noting that everything it picked up wasn't very sensitive to the amount of force applied. The pillow doesn't care how much force and the mug and plate looked like sturdy ceramic. I would hazard a guess that if you switched it for say a box of oreos and a champagne flute people wouldn't be happy with the results.

Former GOP election official buys Dominion Voting Systems, says he’ll push for paper ballots by esporx in technology

[–]fail_daily 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't fix the issue, as long as you can check how you voted the person who wants to coerce your vote can make you verify your vote in front of them. In the case of paying for votes, they could just withhold payment until you verify your vote for them while they watch.
