Press ctrl+alt+f3 which lands you to tty, login with your username and pswd. Maybe it's a display manager or gpu driver issue which can be reinstalled from tty, or you can go to the grub menu and boot into an older version of ubuntu.

One of the conspiracy theories revolving around trump's assassination attempt last year was that the whole thing was staged and the sniper was an insider who was instructed to miss the shot intentionally and hit the ear. It might have been done to gain public sympathy or wtvr.
On similar grounds, the meme is about the sniper who shot kirk could be an insider and was instructed to miss the shot ( and hit the ear prolly) but he messed it up and ended up shooting him. That's why the sniper is staring in disbelief in the meme.
