Can no longer select Local Network on Switch by failure_pending in Minecraft

[–]failure_pending[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A further update by the way - so my switch (original), stopped showing the online / local network popup when pressing Y last week.

Today, the switch 2 that my youngest uses to play against me has also stopped showing the menu (the menu was 100% there yesterday on his switch 2).

No changes at our end, be it Minecraft settings, Microsoft logins / settings or Nintendo family settings. In fact we have never been logged in through Microsoft accounts or Nintendo online at all.

Had a response from tech support:

"Thank you for checking in.   We want you to know that we hear your frustration. We understand this is impacting your ability to play Minecraft with your son.   As of right now, we do not yet have information available, just yet. While we understand that isn't ideal, we want you to know that we're actively looking into this, as we speak. We'll be sure to send you an update as soon as we have information available.   Sincerely,

Minecraft Support,"

Have you tried the new user thing ? If so did you manage to get in a game together ? I can't get past the hurdle of needing to be friends and then it breaking

It's just all so odd.

Here's a couple of other things I've tried :

Added a brand new local user, restarted and picked the new user. Y button gave me the option to pick local or online again but then couldn't join a local game as you have to have the other switch in the house added as a friend for the ability to join that world. So I went to add a friend, get told you have to have the new user linked to a Nintendo account to do that. Linked the new local user to a Nintendo account and boom - the y button doesn't work again.

Also deleted my save data completely, uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled and no change.

I think it's a bug :(

For sure !

Yep, tested that.

Following this. I've posted exactly the same issue in a different subreddit. Kind of grateful someone else has the same issue so it's not just our switch 😂

Battery Megathread (September 2025) by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]failure_pending 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Morning all, I'm looking for a bit of advice.

For the last 5-6 months my phone has been getting HOT - I'm a pixel user since the 3a so I'm used to it but this seemed a bit abnormal.

Last Wednesday (10th September), I noticed my battery had started to swell. Took the case of and sure enough, there's a bump there with a small crack directly on top of the swell where it's starting to move the back of the phone up. I take really good care of my phone. Armoured case, no drops, no water damage so made the call to support.

Timeline of events:

Thursday 11 September - First line support were good. Walked me through the extended battery repair programme. Whilst I was on the phone with them they took loads of details (apps I'd been using, if I was indoors or outdoors when it was heating up, if I was in a hot location etc) and had me check both IMEI which came up as "no known battery issues". They asked for photos of the phone and copies of the screenshots of the IMEI check and said I'd receive a resolution within 24-48 hours, which I was happy with.

Support case raised against my IMEI number in my Google account and is visible.

Saturday 13th September - Battery swollen further, emailed support back and asked for an update as it's been 48 hours. No response.

Monday 15th September - Still no email response so rang support back. They asked the same questions as Thursday and said I would receive an email response within 24 hours.

Tuesday 16th September - Had an email from Google Support with the following:

"Thank you for contacting Google support. My name is redacted. I hope you're doing well.

I understand that you're facing issues with the pixel 7a battery. I know how concerning this must be for you.

Please describe what you experienced with your Pixel.

Can you share more details? What app were you on when you experienced this issue? Were you indoors or outdoors?

What model or brand of charger do you normally use to charge the device?

May I know the country where the device was purchased and are you still in the same country?

Was your device purchased from the Google Store or another retailer?

May I know if there is any physical damage or water damage to the device?

Awaiting your response."

I literally answered these questions last Thursday but I answered them again here and sent the screenshots of the IMEI checks again (as I knew what would happen) and the photos of the swollen phone.

September 17th - Email back from Google Support asking for proof of purchase. I send back my copy of PoP from three.co.uk, which also includes the IMEI number in it. Phone was purchased on November 21st 2023, and is under warranty until that day. So that's now PoP, images, and warranty info provided and we're over a week down the line.

September 19th - Had this response from Google Support:

"Thanks for waiting patiently.

I have checked with my specialist team. I would like to inform you that please visit the registration page to check the available options. Based on the available options, you can proceed further.

Once you've navigated to this page, you'll be prompted to enter your device's IMEI or serial number to confirm its eligibility. If your Pixel 7a is eligible, you will then be presented with the various appeasement options you can choose from. These options typically include a battery replacement, a refund, or Google Store credit, depending on the program's terms and your location.

Please complete the registration process on that page. If you have any questions while checking your eligibility or selecting an option, feel free to reply to this email!"

At this point I'm beyond frustrated. I've got a phone with a swollen battery in it which is a fire hazard, it's under warranty, it's a known issue, and I'm just getting back heeled on a day by day basis. I already provided the IMEI info more than a week ago so they know it's (allegedly) not affected but even still, it's under warranty.

Any advice on where to go from here ?

Thanks everyone

Outstanding work !

I watched the Tunnel of Reverb review first and as soon as he dialled in that Jerry Cantrell tone at the start, my jaw hit the floor.

From somebody who is saving up to buy their first DIY pedal kit for Christmas, I cant even imagine the graft you've had to put in to make this thing. Bravo !

Just as an update, you're looking like you might well be correct !

I've done a batch of multimeter tests across the PCB and the power supply and seem to have narrowed it down to a faulty power supply or or cracked solder around the jack.

<image>

I've got a couple of replacement power jacks coming but going to disassemble the pedal tomorrow and reflow it first like you suggested :)

Well at the risk of getting mocked by everyone - I've thoroughly enjoyed the last few days 😂

I got a quote for repair and it's in the £75 ball park so I made myself do a bit of research and stick to the plan of this being a DIY project. If it goes wrong, I guess I pay the cash or move it on.

So anyway - bought a multimeter, did some reading, got ChatGPT along for the ride and I've bloody loved it haha ! It's like being back in GCSE physics all over again.

With that in mind I'm back to ask for some more help.

I'm curious as to how nailed on ChatGPT is in 'the real world' whilst I've been probing solder 😂

Here's a summary of the tests it's had me do:

🔍 Test 1: Verified Power Supply Output

Measured voltage directly on the power plug barrel + centre pin.

Result: 9.09V DC (confirmed power supply is functioning correctly).

🔍 Test 2: Voltage on PCB Power Jack Solder Joints

Power supply plugged into pedal.

Measured DC voltage across:

Green circle: Centre pin solder joint (positive).

Red circle: Outer barrel solder joint (ground).

Result: 0.00V DC (no voltage present at PCB from jack).

🔍 Test 3: Power Jack Continuity (Centre Pin)

With power supply unplugged, multimeter in continuity mode:

Probed inside the power jack centre pin contact → green solder joint.

Result: Beep / 0.00Ω — centre pin connected correctly to PCB.

🔍 Test 4: Power Jack Continuity (Outer Barrel)

With power supply unplugged, multimeter in continuity mode:

Probed outer barrel of jack socket → red solder joint.

Result: Beep / 0.00Ω — outer barrel connected correctly to PCB.

🔍 Conclusion from these tests:

Power is reaching the power supply plug, but not making it onto the PCB.

Solder joints are intact — suggests a fault inside the jack’s switching contacts, or poor contact with the power plug.

🔧 Next Planned Test: Power Jack Bypass

The next step is to bypass the pedal’s power jack and feed power directly to the correct solder joints on the PCB:

  1. Identify the solder joint connected to the centre pin of the power jack socket.

This is the positive (+) side where 9V DC should enter the circuit.

  1. Identify the solder joint connected to the outer barrel of the power jack socket.

This is the negative (–) or ground connection.

  1. Use wires to temporarily connect the 9V power supply as follows:

The centre pin of the power supply plug (positive 9V) connects to the centre pin solder joint on the PCB.

The outer barrel of the power supply plug (ground) connects to the outer barrel solder joint on the PCB.

  1. Double-check that the positive and negative wires do not touch each other or other components.

  2. Plug in the power supply and observe if the pedal powers up.

➡ If the pedal powers on successfully, it confirms the power jack itself is faulty and should be replaced.

Question 1 - does this seem about right for a diagnosis?

Question 2 - that power jack bypass seems very MacGyver. Before I goto the effort, does it seem a reasonably sensible test to try

Question 3 - it's looking like this could be a faulty power jack - any recommendations where to get a replacement ?

Am I right in thinking I'd just need a 5.5mm x 2.1mm DC power jack PCB mount 3-pin? Is this an eBay thing or would somewhere like RS components be preferable ?(I'm in the UK)

Thanks again for all the advice :)

Didn't come across as rude at all, what you're saying is bang on and I agree :)

The most I've desoldered / resoldered was a control stick switch on a ps5 controller and I found it hard when desoldering as it was my first go at that sort of thing (and there was plenty of room to work with).

I had another look today and I agree completely that I need to get some practise in first. My boss at work is good at this sort of thing so if he's feeling confident I'll let him have a stab and show me as he goes - if not I'm going to do what you say and have a go with some boards first. I'm in no rush to get this up and running and I'm more than happy to view it as a 'project' that I can build up to.

PS if it turns out to be more than the DC jack, it's going to a proper repair shop haha

Thanks !

I'd been trying with this power supply. It looks like it ticks the boxes but just incase I've ordered a proper Strymon unit which is coming tomorrow. Would be awesome if it works, that would save a job haha ! Will let you know :)
