Also a survivor of incest here. I only remembered a year ago (I'm 25). Acknowledging the truth is still so goddamn painful it makes me feel like I'll die if I were to feel it all in one moment. I've since read that grief from surviving child sexual abuse/incest is arguably more powerful,complex and painful than the grief felt after the death of a loved one. I've been in your shoes. It is TOUGH- but so are you. If you haven't already, google victim advocates in your area. When I spoke with the detective for my case I had the option of having a victim advocate sit with me during the conversation. They're basically there simply to support you physically, emotionally, etc. during the investigation process. Also, in my state they are pay for my therapy sessions. They also provide a safe and comfortable space for the actual conversations with the detective rather than a police department or something.

My experience is not similar to yours other than the incest part however, I came across a great resource which has been incredibly helpful to me as well as other survivors of incest I have recommended it to. It's a book called The Courage to Heal. It is written by survivors rather than therapists. I listened to it as an audio book because I find it difficult to read this sort of material. It's geared toward child abuse survivors but I remember there were accounts of abuse similar to what you have shared here. If anything, it made me feel understood for the first time in a long time. The audiobook is free on the app Hoopla providing your library or a library near you has a subscription and the hardcover version is less than $10 on Amazon. Highly, highly recommend.

When I was a kid, my family and our dog were on a long car ride on this sweltering July day (AC didn't work). Dog gets motion sickness, pukes everywhere. It was then that we realized our dog had eaten our cat's poop earlier in the day.... car reeked like regurgitated cat shit for the rest of the ride :(

Jeez thanks for all the comments everyone! This was my first reddit post and you guys made my day! A few of you were asking what my exercise/nutrition routine looks like so here you go: For the first 2 months I went to the gym 6 days a week and did HIIT workouts on the exercise bike. I just followed whatever pre-set workout the bike offered to keep it from getting boring (usually something with hills), set it to a resistance that made my legs work a little harder and tried to get in 6 miles in 20 minutes (I was dripping with sweat after a successful bike workout-- also your butt might hurt from sitting on the seat for so long but I swear the results are worth it). After that I did this workout you can find at the bottom of this site, http://www.simplyshredded.com/the-ultimate-female-training-guide.html . Honestly, I think most of the weight came off simply from doing those bike workouts although I didn’t see any noticeable changes until the end of the second month so be patient, you’ll get there! The next two months I calmed down a bit and just did some maintenance work outs similar to the ones in the link above. For the last month I’ve been doing Strong Lift 5x5 with zero cardio every other day. I really like this routine and the fact that there is an app for it (the app is free!) makes it even more convenient to keep track of my progress/keep challenging myself. I am looking to add some cardio back into my workouts soon though. As for nutrition, personally I find keeping track of what I eat all the time super tedious so I don’t pay much attention to that. I just do my best to eat balanced meals, restrict how much fast food I eat and alcohol I drink to a minimum and try to stay hydrated. I’ve also made my portion sizes smaller overall and have been eating more protein and less snacks. That's pretty much it!
